I am a trauma specialist, trained in Somatic Experiencing and certified in EMDR.
I believe that people have an innate capacity to heal and change. Access to this healing is sometimes blocked by negative and destructive patterns that are formed when there is a need to adapt and survive difficult, traumatic or overwhelming experiences. In a collaborative, empathic, and safe atmosphere, I facilitate people’s connections to their own resources and foster the creation of a compassionate self that is free to make mindful choices and unhook old patterns. Through psychodynamic and somatically oriented approaches, people find new insights and awareness, build resiliency and create pathways to greater fulfillment.

I am a licensed therapist for over ten years trained in EMDR, DBT and Somatic Intervention.
You can be functioning, yet still struggle. I will help you build your communication, relationships and self-esteem so you feel more balanced and confident in yourself. You won't waste your time. You'll be challenged about thoughts and behaviors that haven't been working until now. I know you don't just want another therapist. As long as you invest, you will see results; both long and short term. It's not just the session where you will be doing the work. You'll have tools and skills to practice in between so it's continuous all week.

Everyone deserves to feel at home in their body. While I am an advanced EMDR therapist with a focus on trauma and attachment repair, I often integrate elements of yoga, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, CBT, and mindfulness into sessions.
Have you struggled to make progress with talk therapy? Would you like to feel more in control of your emotions and behavior? I offer an integrative approach to adults that battle with emotional overwhelm, impulsive behavior, and mood instability. With the right support, these chaotic feelings can be untangled and we can land together in a place of clarity and ease. Whether these behaviors are showing up in personal relationships, at work, or are directed inward, I can help you work toward relief. My style is both gentle and direct and works to tailor a flow of therapy that suits your personal needs and goals.

It is also somatic, sex positive, and for the erotically marginalized (non-monogamous/poly & kinky).
Seeking therapy can be an intimidating and overwhelming process. From acknowledging that you'd like more support to searching for the right therapist for you, it takes effort and courage to face your challenges and risk vulnerability. That is why I aim to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you can bring your full, authentic self into the room. To be open without fear of judgment is to move towards freedom and expansion. I especially enjoy working with (QT)BIPOC individuals, couples+ & families to explore issues of race, sex, gender, culture, and other identity that may be impacting your overall wellbeing.

Feeling stuck? Want to bring some playfulness into your life and feel like something can change? Let's make it happen. Drama Therapy, a somatic, experiential, and creative method, is an incredible tool for self-discovery, transformation, and connection. As a queer genderqueer therapist, I especially enjoy working with queer and trans folks, anti-zionists, and those interested in disrupting white supremacist and ableist systems of pathology. You and I will co-create a space that feels safe enough for you to grow in ways that are important to you, expand self-acceptance, and maybe even have a laugh in the process.

Are you feeling anxious, sad or do you feel less energy and satisfaction than you used to? Is something in your life not working like a relationship, your career, or a life goal - leaving you feeling frustrated and stuck? I specialize in helping people work through childhood trauma, along with current day issues - workplace stress, anxiety, infertility, divorce and grief. I tend to be an "in the trenches" therapist - highly empathic, listening and responding. I use EMDR therapy and Somatic Experiencing tools when that could be a useful approach to resolve areas in which you feel triggered or anxious.

My approach is “somatic,” meaning talking about, connecting with, listening to and trying to understand our body.
I specialize in working with adults with overwhelmed nervous systems, which includes all of us facing climate catastrophe and rising fascism. I use a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive framework that sees mental health not as an individual problem, but one rooted in systemic and structural problems. I use historical and material conditions as a context to understand ways systems of oppression are replicated in therapy despite intent, including ways adaptive responses to a hostile social environment are labeled “disordered.”

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
