I work primarily with adolescents, children, and young adults who have had very difficult experiences and need a safe, playful, and steady partner to explore the impact of these events on their lives. As an out queer clinician I also work regularly with LGBTQIA+ clients who seek a therapist aware of the complexity of those identities in the world, as well as with parents looking to better develop skills to support trans or queer-identified children. I recognize racism and white supremacy as forms of social oppression that provoke traumatic responses and work accordingly with clients who have been harmed by these systems.

There are many ways to achieve mental health and well-being.
At times it may seem as if we're at odds with our mind. The thoughts and feelings we experience seem overwhelming. We can convince ourselves we're undeserving of contentment, love, happiness, success, acceptance, etc. Where does that come from and why is it so easy to believe? For those of us in the LGBTQIA+ community, there are added layers we need to work through, making it difficult for us to thrive. Therapy can play a meaningful role by providing a space to work through the layers, confront our hurtful thoughts and feelings, unburden ourselves of the past, and truly learn to thrive.

Is it really possible to feel better? To be more satisfied with your work? To find and sustain love in your life? To truly heal from old wounds? If you're reading this now there must be a part of you that can answer these questions with a resounding Yes. However sometimes this voice can seem far off, more like a distant whisper. Stress and Anxiety in our life can take us even further away from this inner support and we can lose our way. I can help you find your way back to your authentic self.

Look, life can be hard. That is just a fact. However, it does not have to be. When armed with the tools necessary to help raise your level of awareness and effect your current situation, life can be beautiful, peaceful, calm, and sometimes even easy. Having been in therapy for over a decade and now armed with the knowledge I’ve gained in my education, I have an intrinsic understanding of the radical benefits of therapy. I see relationships as fundamental to our wellbeing and strive to create a welcoming and supportive space for families, couples, and individuals to explore their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.

I am a semi-retired psychotherapist with over twenty years of experience. For the last ten years, I've focused on treating especially difficult problems: obsession-only OCD, chronic depression, pervasive fear/anxiety, and personality disorders, mostly borderline disorder. Many of my clients report extremely disturbing intrusive thoughts: self-hate, overly critical self-judgement, self-de mands for protection from unlikely events, extreme worry, extreme negative predictions and worse. Their thoughts are not psychotic, but standard hu manistic therapy, CBT, DBT, etc. have failed to provide them with relief.

I bring warmth, humor and experience as a parent and a creative professional to empower my clients to embrace their authenticity, find purpose, and manifest personal growth.
Our world has become increasingly interconnected, yet ironically loneliness can still permeate even the most crowded rooms, leaving us feeling unseen, unheard, even alienated. In my experience working with a diverse population of individuals of all ages and backgrounds, I have found that sharing our stories in a safe, non-judgmental space not only brings relief and healing from the traumas of our past, but also helps us re-engage with the present and envision a hopeful future.

As a therapist I firmly believe that transformative growth and liberation depend on first developing a trusting relationship. My individual clients are looking for space to discuss anxiety, pressures from work and family, and daily stressors with someone who recognizes the connections to social identity. When working in relationships—whether ro mantic, sexual, familial—my clients value the safety to each express their needs and better understand one another.

Do you want results? Are you finding that you keep getting in your own way? That your emotions, trauma, pain, old stories and anxiety are preventing you from living the life you are meant to live? Or maybe nothing is clicking for you, no matter how are hard you try. The good news is that there is always a way, a technique or subtle perspective that can and will shift you and your life. The catch? You need to be willing to step into the unknown and get uncomfortable.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
