We all have the capacity to heal. With the right safety and support, we can come home to ourselves, allow difficult emotions to be released, and re-author old stories to create new meaning in our lives. I use experiential therapy to help you move through barriers so you can arrive into your body with compassion and connection. From this place, we can explore your relationship to self and others, come to understand patterns that create stuckness, and practice new skills so you can embody insights, change and self-belonging.

Hello and welcome to my page! I believe that all individuals are capable of healing and growth with the help of an understanding, compassionate, and supportive therapist. Therapy is a vulnerable process and I strive to provide an environment where my client feels safe. I also believe that insight alone is not enough for change to occur and therefore I bring experiential work into the room, often engaging the body and somatic experience in our work. My approach to therapy integrates Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

I establish trust with the people I have the honor of working with. I ask for consent, and I use tools and techniques with gentleness and mindfulness. I work collaboratively, I ask about goals, dreams and aspirations, and am transparent about what I am doing and why and how I intend to support. If something is not working or doesn't feel good, I am always open to trying a different way or bringing in additional support as needed. Part of my commitment to doing this work is doing my own work, and I remain active in building my own ability to be present, resourceful, skilled, and energized to provide support.

Welcome. You might have a difficult moment in your life. Whatever your issues, needs and goals are -therapy is a wonderful experience being with someone who can hold space for you. There are many life areas where therapy could be helpful. In my practice, we work collaboratively to create a safe space, learn how to slow down, listen to your body, listen to ourselves, develop fresh language which can describe our process, and access inner wisdom. We develop a therapeutic relationship which will support our process with gaining clarity, relief, balance, and reconnecting with all parts of us which are suffering.

I am here with you. Well, not yet. But when I’m with you, I’m with you. With you in your pain and loneliness, your sadness and anger, your joy, surprise and inspiration. With you in your transition, your loss, your growth and transformation. Therapy with me is a creative process of exploration and discovery in the here and now. I believe that we have a boundless capacity to grow and change, to heal and become unstuck from self-denying, self-destructive ways of being. I also believe that your experience of being stuck is REAL; it’s not “all in your head” and you can’t “just snap out of it.” I know because I’ve been there.

At times in life, we find ourselves overwhelmed; in states of persistent mental or emotional distress, stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, and questioning which path best serves us. With greater consciousness of our patterns of thought, feeling and behavior, we can develop the capacity to meet these moments with the wisdom of our whole selves. By connecting more fully to our emotions, we can access our innate healing process and move towards greater integration. In honoring your unique story, we can explore how life’s suffering may be pointing you towards greater wholeness and a life of meaning.

I believe we all want to feel safe, to feel genuinely seen, to have meaningful connection, to be able to weather challenges, and to feel, deep down, that we are good enough and not alone. When we better understand our inner patterns and all our parts feel welcome and seen, then we can tap into the natural ability of our brains and bodies to learn and transform. Beneath our protective defenses and habits, I believe every one of us is curious, courageous, loving, and worthy of love. As flowers turn toward the sun, humans are evolved for resilience. I work closely with clients to rediscover their natural inner resources for healing.

Are you a queer or trans person feeling stuck or disconnected and looking for support with your relationships, sexuality, or gender? For many of us, navigating intimacy and seeking purpose in our lives can bring up the legacies of shame, estrangement, and trauma, and make us feel anxious, overwhelmed, lonely, or empty—especially in a time of increasing uncertainty, heightened injustice, and institutional failures. But as queer people we’re also highly adaptive and resilient. In my practice, I help clients build on this strength so they can brave tough moments, heal, and find a greater sense of authenticity and trust in themselves.

Experiential Therapy
How does experiential therapy work?
Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.
Is experiential therapy evidence-based?
Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.
How long does experiential therapy last?
The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
Does experiential therapy help with trauma?
Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
