The journey from adolescence to young adulthood can be stressful and overwhelming for both individuals and their families. Between social pressures, academic expectations, and familial relationships, some people can get trapped in a cycle of negative emotions. I work with teenagers, young adults and their families who are struggling through this exciting time full of changes. I have helped individuals and families build strength and resilience in a number of settings, including schools, mental health clinics and as a pediatric social worker in NYC hospital systems.

I believe in searching for the resilience in each person. Beginning therapy can feel like entering unknown territory. I have a warm, interactive practice that includes the following: problematic life changes, depression, adoption issues (both child and adult), work issues, social competence, relationship issues, recovery issues, trauma, anxiety and aging issues. I have a special feeling for those who are dealing with anxiety, and use meditation frequently. I am also able to assist with creative blocks regarding writing and other arts.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with extensive training in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice. You’ve got everything under control, except for when everything falls apart. It can feel debilitating to work so hard to keep your life on track and then feel overwhelmed by fear or shame or anger at a moment’s notice. You double down on trying to control it but it never seems to be possible and you’re worried that the life you’ve carefully built won’t be able to withstand more bumps. You know your stuff, you /understand/ what you should be doing but you can’t seem to get there and you feel stuck and embarrassed. Repeat repeat.

As a certified EMDR therapist I help clients struggling with PTSD, trauma, and attachment issues. I strongly believe in a mind-body connection, and help my clients strengthen their emotional well-being. Change - whether it is personal, professional, environmental - is the one constant in everyone's life and also the one thing we fear most. It is even more difficult adapting to change that is forced upon us. We often feel alone, vulnerable and unmoored in these moments of transition. As a therapist, I want to assist my clients in tapping into their inner wellspring of resilience and guide them through these challenging life phases; I have experience working with a variety of individuals /concerns/issues, such as LGBTQIA+, veterans, couples, anxiety, depression, stage of life transition and those struggling with identity issues.

Seeking mental health services can be a difficult process. The stigma behind mental health does not make it any easier. You may feel reluctant to seek help due to fear or feel shame and self-doubt. I am here to break this stigma with you by providing services filled with compassion, support and understanding. I will encourage you to communicate your emotions in and out of session, while providing you with the tools necessary to display them in healthy ways. You will be challenged and encouraged to implement your new skills outside of the therapeutic space. Change starts with you.

I believe that people have an innate capacity to heal and change. Access to this healing is sometimes blocked by negative and destructive patterns that are formed when there is a need to adapt and survive difficult, traumatic or overwhelming experiences. In a collaborative, empathic, and safe atmosphere, I facilitate people’s connections to their own resources and foster the creation of a compassionate self that is free to make mindful choices and unhook old patterns. Through psychodynamic and somatically oriented approaches, people find new insights and awareness, build resiliency and create pathways to greater fulfillment.

Therapy is about making meaning. Yes, most people start the process to develop coping skills and receive guidance during stressful times or life transitions, but that’s only the beginning of what it can achieve. If you approach this experience with curiosity and openness, I will help you unpack your history, identify patterns and make meaningful changes that leave you feeling like you are writing your own story.
