I primarily utilize psychodynamic and attachment-based techniques and incorporate other modalities to develop a unique plan of action tailored to your specific needs.
My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative. I believe therapy works when we establish a meaningful relationship that allows you to feel safe enough to develop a sense of curiosity about your inner world. Within this space, we can challenge long-held self-narratives and discover the roots of dissatisfying relational patterns. My goal is to help you see your world differently and build agency to make changes in your life. Together we will identify new ways of relating to yourself and others, leading to a greater sense of meaning and fulfillment.

My integrated approach includes EMDR, CBT, narrative, attachment-based and psychodynamic therapies.
Seeking support is a brave thing to do and I am so pleased you landed here. Maybe you're exploring your identity, feeling stuck in an unhelpful behavior pattern, or feeling anxious or down; maybe you're experiencing unresolved memories or feelings coming up; or maybe you don't quite feel how you would like to feel about yourself at this point in your life. I can help you to make sense of these experiences and make the changes you want. While I work with clients on a range of concerns, I have extensive experience working with people who have endured abuse or neglect, as well as with people of transgender experience and LGB folks.

My work integrates Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) with psychodynamic, attachment-based and trauma-centered approaches.
We all have the capacity to heal. With the right safety and support, we can come home to ourselves, allow difficult emotions to be released, and re-author old stories to create new meaning in our lives. I use experiential therapy to help you move through barriers so you can arrive into your body with compassion and connection. From this place, we can explore your relationship to self and others, come to understand patterns that create stuckness, and practice new skills so you can embody insights, change and self-belonging.

You may be feeling called to move into a deeper understanding of yourself as life unfolds. Amidst times that may feel dark, overwhelming, or lacking vitality, anxiety and dissociation can manifest in so many ways that feel fragmenting and harmful to the self and body. We can be strongly defended against our unconscious wishes, fantasies, and unmet needs. How and why we behave, think, get stuck or feel fear, love, shame, and joy are layered with so much meaning. Together, we may find ways to build resilience, steps toward action, self-awareness, fulfilling connection, and a sense of wholeness.

My approach includes culturally competent therapies tailored to each individual patient, drawing from Psychodynamic, Narrative, Existential, Dialectical-Behavioral, Cognitive-Behavioral, Attachment-Based, and Family Systems therapies.
Seeking therapy is a courageous act of self love; it is a commitment to an understanding of self and others without judgment, an essential step toward growth, healing, and quality relationships. I provide psychotherapy to a diverse population of clients, specializing in areas such as survivors of trauma, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, anger, family issues, couples' issues, depression, chronic illness, and grief. My practice is rooted in principles of affirmation, intersectional justice, harm reduction, and embodiment and holds the position that social oppressions and systemic problems operate as barriers to wellness.

Therapy is a noble, intimate, and sometimes messy undertaking. Those who come to it may hope to relieve emotional pain, expand their understanding of themselves and their life narrative, or access more moments of joy and presence. Together, we can help you move towards what you might otherwise shy away from, understand the source of challenges, and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework, and blend tangible skills to help alleviate your pain in the day-to-day and enhance your relationships.

In my work with young children, I utilize a variety of attachment-based techniques, including dramatic play and art therapy.
What are the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves? Where do we learn them? Therapy is a great place to start creating new stories that are more aligned with your values and desires. I believe that healing happens in the relationship and approach therapy as a creative, collaborative experience where humor, kindness, and self-expression are valued and encouraged. My areas of expertise include working with young people who have experienced trauma and family conflict, though I work with individuals of all ages to help them manage the stressors of life and achieve greater self-awareness, acceptance, and meaning.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
