Therapy is a complex process. The components of time and commitment are vital for clients in diving into their mental wellbeing. If you feel ready, I invite you with the assisted guidance from myself, to cultivate a deepened relationship with your SELF. Many of my clients have been supported through periods of depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationships, complex trauma and addiction. I provide a warm, open, and non-judgmental space for teenagers and young adults to work through and grapple with their identity, relationships, anxiety, depression, and trauma. My therapeutic approach is individualized and adaptable - allowing my clients to find a voice as well as a sense of empowerment and self-discovery through their experience with therapy. I strive to practice therapy through a structurally competent lens - keeping in mind how racist and rigid structures and systems in this modern life affect the mental health and well-being of the individual.

Experiencing trauma and distressing life events can leave you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or otherwise emotionally unsettled. You may struggle with intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares or intense emotional reactions to seemingly benign triggers in your daily life. Even common events such as bullying, grief, workplace toxicity, and abusive relationships can benefit from EMDR therapy. Working together we will focus on reducing distress, improving mood, increasing self-awareness, developing coping strategies and building resilience.

I hold a strong commitment to using holistic approaches to healing. Through my extensive clinical work with trauma survivors and background working with young people, I know that talk therapy is not always the most effective method for processing and healing from trauma. I employ therapeutic techniques from Trauma-based Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and somatic modalities to support my clients. As a published author, I often incorporate creative modalities into my therapeutic practice such as creative writing activities, drawing, and clay. Let's work together to figure out which methods work best for you.

I work with individuals and couples struggling with life transitions, overwhelming emotions, and feeling stuck with where they are. My clients often find themselves disconnected from others due to fear that they won’t be understood. Some have dealt with years of anxiety, depression, and trauma, making it difficult to imagine feeling better. Whatever you are going through, you don’t have to do it alone. Our work can help with finding your way through challenging times with greater appreciation of your own innate strength and a newfound perspective of what it means to create a life that is fulfilling and worth living.

Prioritizing mental and emotional health may sometimes feel hard to do when there is so much going on. However, the feeling of growth, strength, hope and triumph are worth it when taking the step to improving one’s mental well-being. Navigating past or present stressors doesn’t have to be done alone. I have 8 years of social work practice and acquired experience in working with with children, adolescents and adults in addressing their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, crisis intervention and emotional instability.

You wish you could just relax, but all the responsibilities of modern life get in the way. It’s hard to feel hopeful when you’re always so drained. You may be fed up with the constant anxiety of trying to keep it all together, feeling alone trying to meet everyone’s expectations, or doubting that things will ever get better. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel happy. You’re ready to feel connection and love. Most of all, you’re ready to take back control of your life.

Change can be intimidating. We develop methods of coping that, at one time, perhaps helped to survive, but now prevent us from ultimately thriving. This can manifest in our relationship patterns and our mood, causing disruption in work, love, family, friendships and a healthy identity. My approach to therapy is rooted in helping clients develop a deeper understanding of these patterns and effecting change and empowerment through insight, support, and challenging maladaptive beliefs.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
