I am a seasoned mental health counselor who spends time getting to know you in a comfortable style of conversation, focusing on your strengths and optimizing what you do right. It is my philosophy that mental health counseling be short term at punctuated times in your life -- our sessions will be solutions focused on your current issues. You may see me for a few sessions and return to me again in the future. It is important for you to know that I understand biology as an important part of wellness and will work with your internist and/or psychiatrist in your care.

Feeling alone & isolated? Feeling anxious & depressed? Tired of having the same arguments with your child or teen? Let's transform your life! Realizing that you need to change takes courage, seeking help to make changes in your life takes even more courage. With respect for that courage, as well as with humor, I love to work together with children, young adults, families and adults to take charge of their lives to bring about desired outcomes. Using cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT), I help people learn how to hone their thinking and reaction. CBT helps people look at their patterns of behavior and learn better skills to cope.

My therapeutic treatment is an individual personalized plan (IPP) that starts by assessing client’s expectations and goals and progresses into a tailor-made treatment. "Starting with The End in Mind", states Covey, S., clients bring to therapy their own narratives to which expect solutions. As we unfold, several plots emerge. With the ultimate client's goal in mind, our sessions take a ride in the client’s journey thru past, present and future. Whereas seizing the present is the key, looking ahead and glancing back at the past gives it a re-significance as the past does live in our present and is strong enough to shape our future.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in working with adolescents, children, and adults. I have been practicing for over 30 years. Throughout my career, I have made it my focus to help people manage, Identify and express themselves, to improve the quality of their lives, in a productive manner. Working with children and adolescents have challenges because life at their age is unpredictable and full of changes. Focusing on acquiring skills to adapt to those changes, while simultaneously learning and growing is equally important. As adults we face life experiences that can be difficult to manage without adequate help.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
