I have specialized training and expertise in treating anxiety disorders and OCD in adults using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ERP, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
All of us, at some point, will feel stuck, tired of the fight, and in need of some extra help. Therapy can show you a new way forward. If you feel lost in your relationships and are not sure how to reconnect, I can teach you a different approach to communication. If your child's anxiety (or your own!) is taking over and impacting everyone in the family, I can help you with strategies that restore peace and teach you important coping skills. I have over a decade of experience working with individuals and families just like yours. I offer the convenience and efficiency of telehealth - licensed in NY, VT and FL.

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches to help patients better manage anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD and executive functioning.
We all want to achieve our greatest potential, and to experience so much of what life can offer, but this often means facing change and risking what feels comfortable. Doing this can be quite challenging for many of us, especially as we face stress, loss, and many of life’s greatest challenges. Even when we are willing, it can be so hard to get out of our head and out of our own way. Together, we will work as a team to understand what meaningful change you are looking to create, and to equip you with tools that can be integrated into everyday life.

I am a seasoned mental health counselor who spends time getting to know you in a comfortable style of conversation, focusing on your strengths and optimizing what you do right. It is my philosophy that mental health counseling be short term at punctuated times in your life -- our sessions will be solutions focused on your current issues. It is important for you to know that I understand biology as an important part of wellness and will work with your internist and/or psychiatrist in your care.

Do you feel overwhelmed, very self aware, and stuck at the same time? It seems like no matter what you do, you feel disconnected and defeated. Maybe you find it hard to trust yourself and feel confident. It’s hard to get your emotional needs met even though you’re ready to break cycles and live a really amazing life. Whether you've experienced childhood trauma, relationship issues, low self esteem, or find yourself going through a challenging time right now - I want you to know that long lasting change is possible. It's easy to fall into the trap of minimizing your needs or intellectualizing your problems.

Are you and your spouse/partner having difficulty communicating? Is your sex life non-existant? Do you dread going home? Is your self-esteem suffering? Then come to talk about it in treatment and find new ways of reconnecting. These are tough times, with some individuals working two and three jobs to stay afloat financially. Keeping it together is a balancing act for couples - especially if you have children. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My style is empathic and proactive.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
