I am also a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), which allows me to provide substance abuse evaluations for DOT employees.
Depression and anxiety can hurt and the answer does not always come from a prescription. You deserve to work with someone you trust and feel comfortable with. You deserve someone who will not judge you or tell you that your problems are all in your head. Additionally, if you are struggling with a chemical addiction, we need to treat the addiction AND what is going on with you emotionally. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in Mental Health/ Addictions therapy. I have 15 years experience helping folks cope with depression, anxiety, marital issues & addictions.

My down-to-earth, humor-filled, and practical therapeutic approach enables me to form a strong alliance with my patients. I am passionate about enabling and empowering my patients to maximize joy and minimize suffering in life by identifying and living by your deepest values. Therapy with me will not merely consist of you recounting the events of your week while I nod my head and tell you that I know you can figure out how to change, improve, or handle it. I am not just a “paid friend;” rather, my patients need me to (a) understand their suffering and then (b) teach them HOW to make things better.

The decision to start therapy is a very personal and courageous one. Therapy is a process of change, empowerment, and self-growth. I have worked with people from all age groups, ranging from children to older adults. I have a particular interest in the psychological adjustments of parenthood. It is through the struggles in life where we emerge stronger and more compassionate people.

You can't just 'get rid' of anxiety. Anxiety is a smoke alarm. It scans our environment, our body, and our mind for signs of trouble. When it finds trouble, it sets off the alarm. So we need to address the fire, not the alarm. If you want to explore what it is that anxiety is trying to tell you, then I may just be the therapist for you!

Stress, anxiety, sadness & depression can make our lives difficult & sometimes we need to talk about it. We may need to learn to talk & communicate more effectively to understand each other & relate. As individuals in a relationship or not, we have factors that can contribute & affect our lives that we may not realize. When we make changes to ourselves or changes happen in our lives, it not only affects you, but those around us. Identifying these factors can help bring clarity to you & your family. Changes and life transitions can be tough & can cause depression, anxiety and problems between people. Talking helps change.

I offer solution focused individual therapy as well as group therapy for victims of domestic violence covering everything from safety planning to interpersonal therapy utilizing trauma informed care.
Making the decision to explore counseling is often the first of many courageous steps on the path to embracing all that life has to offer you, yet it can be an intimidating experience. One of the major obstacles to seeking the support of a trained therapist is the fear of being told there is something wrong with you when in reality, life can be overwhelming and we frequently find ourselves struggling with low self-esteem leading to anxiety and depression.

"Some prisons don't require bars to keep people locked inside. All it takes is their perception that they belong there. A soul who believes that he/she can't leave, doesn't." Sometimes it just takes someone to help support you through your process of breaking free, so you can grow as you are meant to. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who has had 10+ years experience conducting Mental Health counseling to adults & children, & providing Domestic Violence advocacy, assisting survivors through the Family Court & Criminal Court process, safety planning, & being an emotional support through the healing process.

I offer informed therapy for people emerging or waking up from high demand groups and coercive relationships of all kinds. You will not spend months teaching your therapist about the way coercive groups promote isolation and fear. We can deal with the long-term effects of religious, cult or domestic violence indoctrination in how we think about the world and about ourselves.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
