Working as a music producer over the years allowed me to help countless individuals explore and express themselves in a safe and nurturing way. Becoming a therapist was a natural progression for me, one that combines my love for the arts and the fields of mental health and human development.

Being with other humans can be so uncomfortable! When we're faced with social opportunities, we might want to run or hide. Maybe we'll avoid plans, say "sorry" all the time, or go quiet in conversations. When we act like this, our bodies might do strange things, too. We might feel lightheaded, numb, or nauseous. Our voices may tremble, and our skin might break out in sweats - or worse. Sometimes, we'll have brutal headaches or stomach aches before an interaction even begins. Afterwards, we might ruminate about what we said or did, and then try to drown out our thoughts with bad habits. It’s a tiresome way to live…

I am currently on a wait list only- I had a philosophy professor who said their answering machine held the two most important questions we could ask ourselves. “Who are you? and “What do you want?” We don’t always know what those answers are, but we can find them out together. Whether you’ve been in therapy before or this is your first step towards change, I am confident we can create goals that are right for you. Making a change is a difficult step and I’m here to help you in that transition in any way I can. Together we will identify areas in your life that you want to see change in, and how to shift from surviving to thriving.

Women in their 20s-40s are often faced with difficult life transitions such as adulting, relationship distress, quarter-life crises, career pursuits, parenting, caregiving, and more. This can be a lot to manage! Social pressures and the changing roles of women in this age group require a focused, feminist, and knowledgable approach. It can be tricky searching for the right therapist, so I appreciate you being here in the first place. My approach is fine tuned, using radical genuineness, to help you learn how to manage these unique stressors while maintaining authenticity and calm.

Finding the right fit for a therapist is so important. You want someone you can trust, open up to about things you would never tell family or friends, and someone who can offer you some useful strategies and feedback. I am an interactive therapist. This means, I will not just sit there and have you talk for 50 minutes without any interactive feedback. Being an interactive therapist, we are having a conversation so there is give and take. I will ask you questions and perspective about what is going on for you that maybe you didn’t think about before. Collaboration is huge! I am not the expert on you. You are.

These events can elicit parts of us that experience confusion, anxiety, overwhelm, and sadness or lead us to fall into patterns that may not make sense. Perhaps you’d like support to bring a sense of clarity, connection, and confidence within yourself and within your relationships, or to develop and heighten a passion and vitality for life. I recognize that your goals are unique to you and are honored in the therapeutic process.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
