Do you ever feel like something is missing? Like there is a void that nothing seems to fill? Ever feel bound or trapped by the failures of your past? The regrets of your mistakes? The pressure and weight of depression, anxiety, family strain, and stress ever wear you down and wear you out? Well I believe there is an answer and it is found in wholeness! It is found in the truth of who you are! The unity of the family system. The healing from the past. The acceptance of the present. The hope for the future.

Is the voice in your head telling you that you're stupid, lazy, weak, not good enough? It can be hard to make sense of these feelings or know how to deal with them. Unfortunately that leaves many of us turning to anger and vices (gambling, drinking, sex, drugs). This only leaves you feeling temporarily soothed but even worse about yourself in the long run. And you get trapped in what seems like a never ending cycle of self-hate and self-medicating. I promise this cycle can stop and I am here to help! I specialize in working with clients self-medicating with vices and am ready to help you take back control of your life.

Life is unpredictable and can feel difficult to manage. It can feel like there is nobody to confide in resulting in feeling completely alone as if there is no light at the end of the tunnel. We all have a story to tell and our story is what makes us unique, but it does not define who we are. No matter what our story is there is always an opportunity to achieve the life we envision for ourselves. Therapy can help to provide the comfort, reassurance, and support to grow in the ways that we desire. Together we will work through challenges you’re facing by learning how to deal with these obstacles while exploring your true self.

You are here. Here is not where you want to be, whatever ‘here’ means to you. The bridge from ‘here’ to ‘there’ is change. If you’re uncertain of how to navigate the road ahead, my goal is to meet you ‘here’, and find the best collaborative approach to get you to the ‘there’. You may be managing life changes, dealing with mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, or many others. You may be a part of a group I specialize in, such as the LBGTQ+ community, kink and polyamory communities, and other marginalized and intersecting identities, but all are welcome. All you need is an open mind and we can work towards that change.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
