I best work with people who would like to have more good days than bad ones, and are looking to find relief from emotional suffering that just seems to persist. I create a safe space for my clients to start the therapeutic process wherever they may feel ready to begin, and look to embolden them to openly explore these target areas of their lives. In time, we can build skills to help you navigate your emotions with more ease and work to resolve some of the causes.

I specialize in work with children and families. The relationships we have with our caregivers shapes who we become in the future. The period of early childhood into adolescence are very difficult years for many children, especially after adjustments after COVID. I have worked with many teens struggling with mental illnesses like Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety or Social Anxiety related to the pandemic and its after effects. I also work with adults who have experienced trauma, difficult life transitions, and stress.

Are you feeling stuck or lost? Feeling overwhelmed and misunderstood? Maybe you aren't even sure of what you're feeling but know that you're not feeling yourself. You might be looking for some clarity while not having the support that you need. Life can come at us unexpectedly and we are left grappling with coping with these changes and stressors. It's possible these life stressors are even bringing up uncomfortable past experiences or increasing your anxiety. We all can use support in order to better cope with life changes and better understand our reactions and interactions with others.

Envisioning a rich and rewarding life can be challenging when you are overcome by either longstanding or daily problems. Certain beliefs and behaviors help to navigate the complexities of life but sometimes overwhelming emotions prevail. Depression, anxiety, panic disorders, and interpersonal problems may develop but with the right therapist you can overcome these obstacles.

Every human being has the right to pursue happiness without being inundated with emotional and behavioral problems. Happiness is not optional but mandatory. Everyone deserves a fulfilling life. To achieve optimal success and happiness, we must maintain emotional health as well as physical health. If we lose this emotional component, physical health is not achievable, and vice versa.

I help adolescents and adults improve the relationship they have with themselves, which in turn improves the relationships they have with others. I help clients get comfortable with digging deep to explore the sources of distress that interfere within such relationships. I help clients understand "why" they are experiencing "negative" emotions, process feelings that have been suppressed, stop avoiding fears, and resolve behaviors that are causing them shame or guilt. Overtime, clients build their self-esteem, self-awareness, and ability to express themselves; reducing both internal and external conflict.

It is always a vulnerable choice we make when we decide to attend therapy. Therefore, it is only natural to look for a safe place to be ourselves. To speak, be heard/validated, and to feel secure. Most importantly, to feel listened to without the fear of judgement. I understand. I aim to provide such a place for you where we can also collaborate, help promote self-growth, and self-exploration within your relationship with yourself or with others. Those are difficult situations to navigate and to find yourselves in and the therapeutic process is a personal journey, so seeking the right kind of therapist is important.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
