* Anxiety and avoidance ( OCD, panic, worrying, phobias, etc.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist, specializing in treating children, adolescents, and families using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in homes, schools and the community. CBT treatment is highly recommended for anxiety, impulse, and conduct disorders. While it is well-established that CBT within real-world settings significantly improves functioning compared to office-based treatment, few professionals accept the challenge! As a professional with 20 years of experience traveling to families throughout Long Island, I understand that intense emotions, troubled relationships and significant avoidance cannot simply be discussed away in therapy, but mindfully experienced and addressed when and where they occur.

Therapy is a space to feel safe in your pain while gaining awareness and learning strategies to build a meaningful life. Are you feeling overwhelmed and under resourced? Does it feel like you can’t get your feet under you? Are you struggling with feeling alone and isolated? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are in the right place. While suffering is inevitable, there is a path forward. It is true that the work is up to you, but there is no reason to do it alone. Your emotions are yours – and by virtue of being emotions, they are coming from a valid and worthwhile place.

People enter therapy for many different reasons. Some may be seeking relief from depression, anxiety, trauma or loss. Others may be stuck in unhealthy relationships and would like to transition to a healthier relationship. Almost all of the people I see enter therapy are ready to make a change yet do not know how to begin. I can help you with developing the self-awareness you need to make changes you desire. I provide a safe, warm environment to explore the challenges that are significant to you.

I help people because I make it possible for them to bring their issues and concerns into the therapy session in order to resolve these problems in the treatment. Whatever we accomplish in this task carries over to the client's outside life and they become more successful. I am able to do this because of my many years of supervision with some of the top therapists in the New York area. I also train other therapists and I was cited as a supervisor of excellence by the California Psychological Association.

At some point in our lives, we find ourselves struggling to grapple with strong and uncomfortable emotions. We end up hitting a barrier, which can paralyze and isolate us, lead to self-defeating patterns, and ultimately disrupt life. Regardless of the cause, daily life can begin to feel unmanageable and pulling ourselves out of a dark place might seem impossible. With thorough exploration, support, and patience, I can help you develop a better understanding of your self and how to move beyond your barriers.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by the challenges they are facing—whether it’s managing anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, or navigating a significant life transition. They may have been carrying emotional burdens, unsure of how to break free from the cycles of negative thinking or feeling stuck in their current circumstances. They might also be dealing with feelings of isolation, relationship struggles, or difficulty managing emotions. Their needs are for a safe, compassionate space where they can express themselves freely without fear of judgment.

Welcome! My name is Samantha and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. Thank you for taking the time to view my page. I understand it is not always easy seeking help, but I will assure you the choice you've made is one that takes great strength. The transitions we experience throughout life are not always simple and sometimes having the ability to share our experience and lean on others can be healing in many aspects. In working with clients my goal is always to provide a safe judgement free environment, where all are welcome.

Understanding yourself can sometimes be the most difficult thing to struggle with. It's as though we have a blindspot when it comes to self. It can be helpful to seek out a more objective view. I can offer support, validation, and insight in a relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere.

I have helped many people improve coping skills and interpersonal relationships. I'm focused on your needs and committed to having you better prepared to handle your current issues each time you leave my office. I am interactive and enjoy having an open dialog to help you find lasting solutions. We will explore any underlying unconscious issues from your past that may be contributing to your current life. Illuminating why you may be drawn to act in a negative way (even though you don't want to) often can help you to make better choices and feel better about life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
