There is no “one size fits all” which allows me to draw from techniques from orientations such as CBT, REBT, person-centered, and psychodynamic therapy to best assist my clients.
Hello, I appreciate your interest in taking this journey with me! I work with ages 14 and up that are dealing with challenges such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relational difficulties, and many other areas through an integrative approach. I work with clients to manage and process traumatic experiences, adjust their communication, learn and implement boundaries, and so much more! Oftentimes, the areas of change are directly linked to unresolved experiences from our past, we will identify, discuss, set a plan, and follow through the journey to establish a resolution. At this time, I only see clients in NY.

My approach to therapy is not standard as everyone's therapeutic journey is not the same. Rather, I blend elements from a variety of approaches. We work together to learn your strengths, areas of weakness, and barriers to change and then collaborate to create personal goals. Some approaches utilized are cognitive behavioral, supportive, and acceptance and commitment. My goal is to work together to identify, educate, and support to make lasting positive changes and improve your quality of life.

As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, I’ve worked since 2015 to help adolescence, emerging adults, and adults to navigate these and other challenges.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and anxious, or do you have difficulty turning off these thoughts? Maybe you are so preoccupied wi these worries that you find you can’t enjoy being with your loved ones or friends? Maybe you are transitioning into a new season of life, and finding it hard to adjust to your new normal.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy, one of the most widely used and research proven effective forms of treatment, is used to help individuals with difficulty adjusting to life changes, anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, depression, among many other conditions.
As Aaron Beck, father of Cognitive Therapy states, "It is not bad things happening to us, but it is our interpretation of them that makes all the difference." Therapy will allow you to feel heard and understood in a safe environment, so that you can gain insight and the tools to learn how to cope with various challenges. A individualized treatment plan will help you understand why you are experiencing difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, etc. If you are ready to STOP being the passenger in this journey called life and get in the driver's seat, call Dr.Gawrych today. Email dr.amygawrych@peaceofmindpsych.com

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
