Anxiety, OCD and trauma can show up in many ways. Chronic self doubt, second-guessing or overthinking the "what ifs" like letting people down, making mistakes, contamination or causing harm. You may feel tense, scattered, procrastinate tasks, be easily frustrated or get stuck when stressed. You're tired of spending life trapped in your head battling obsessive thoughts, losing time engaging in compulsive, repetitive behaviors (like checking, counting etc). You want to know how to be present and let go. I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD and trauma to help you overcome fear, find peace and be confident to live life beyond worry.

These are some of the ways that Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is experienced.
Any of these thoughts sound familiar? What if I harm someone? What if I harm myself? What if I act on an urge to do something I really don’t want to do? What if I am a bad person and just fooling everyone? What if I touched something that could contaminate me or my family? What if I want to act on that sexual thought I really didn’t like? What if I go to jail for something I did but forgot or didn't know? What if that thing I did will come back to haunt me? What if I cheat on my partner? What if I am with the 'wrong' partner even though I love my partner? What if my sexual orientation will change even though I don't want it to?

Being afraid to share your thoughts is common among people with OCD.
I have always been someone who cares for others and a natural problem solver. Being a therapist allows me to use both of these strengths to help people. I decided to specialize in OCD because I am passionate about providing quality, evidence-based treatment. OCD is often misdiagnosed or overlooked, and I wanted to be part of the solution to that problem. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for OCD. Our understanding of its nuances enables us to properly diagnose and treat it. We have received intensive training in Exposure Response and Prevention Therapy (ERP)—the gold standard treatment for OCD.

We have received intensive training in Exposure Response and Prevention Therapy (ERP)—the gold standard treatment for OCD.
I’ve always wanted to be an ally to those struggling with mental health. My own history with mental health struggles and family dynamics sparked a lifelong curiosity about how people work and how the mind functions. I’m inspired by seeing people empowered by therapy and how many lives have been changed by it, including mine. Discovering NOCD and learning about the different types of OCD—and the powerful effects of ERP—piqued my interest. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for OCD. When we live our lives in a state of constant fight-or-flight, we can go into survival mode. Worries, phobias, panic attacks, trauma, obsessive thoughts, avoidant behavior, and/or repetitive/compulsive behaviors can make us feel hopeless and helpless. We can find ourselves overthinking, overanalyzing, and feeling powerless. If you're feeling like life hasn't been moving in a positive direction, find yourself in a state of hypervigilence due to trauma and/or frozen by fears and uncertainty, you CAN find your way out - sometimes we just need some extra support to do so .

I've completed additional training in the areas of Perfectionism, Grief and Loss, Anxiety/Phobias, OCD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention.
Let’s work on creating change together- so that you can develop confidence, learn to cope with worrisome thoughts, and show yourself and others true compassion. I love collaborating with clients to identify resources and build solutions. I work with teens and adults who find it easy to show compassion to others, but struggle to show themselves the same level of kindness. They are often helpers, perfectionists, people-pleasers, highly sensitive people, and over-thinkers.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
