Cara Espey is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Intern. She received her master’s degree in Licensed Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2010. Cara has several years of experience in our city’s public school system counseling pre-teens, teens, staff, and families. She creates a safe space for our youth to be open about the many challenges they face today as well as a supportive atmosphere for parents, staff, and families. Cara’s empathetic approach allows clients to build a strong rapport with her and for parents to trust her to walk alongside their children to work through their struggles.

In over 23 years of counseling I have helped all types of clients, with all types of mental health and/or drug and alcohol problems. I have over the years due to the need specialized in treating depression, trauma, and in drug and alcohol treatment. I love working with children and adults, and I am very creative, so I enjoy using play and art in therapy. I am board certified in neurofeedback, and I also provide biofeedback. I incorporate it into treatment when appropriate. I am also trained to do EMDR for treating trauma.

My passion is activating individuals and families by influencing development of knowledge, skills, and confidence. As a native of Las Vegas, I love giving back to the community by offering support and well being to those in need. I worked closely with children with autism one-on-one for about 6 years, which reinforced my interest in getting my Bachelors of Art in Psychology from UNLV. I later went on to graduate with a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the UNLV, and am a state registered Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am trained in EMDR, a well known and respected trauma related therapy. EMDR has also been successful in treating a wide variety of issues, such as anxiety and OCD.

I was raised in a military family in the small town of El Paso, Texas. I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, El Paso in Criminal Justice before moving to California and earning my Master's degree in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. I was exposed to many cultures and people from all socio-economic backgrounds. I learned, and continue to learn, effective ways to communicate and develop strong, lasting relationships by focusing on on and changing behaviors, thoughts and feelings that affect my life. I began my career as a therapist in 2012 working in a community based setting with children and adolescents in the northern Chicago area. In 2015, I moved to Las Vegas and began working with diverse age groups. I provide therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. I have experience working with individuals, families, and couples. I complete mental health assessments, treatment planning, therapy sessions, and discharge planning. Hello! My name is Emily. I am a licensed couple, family and child therapist. I have a lot of toys and games in my office for my kiddo clients so I always get asked if I see adults too. Yes, I see people of all ages! My background is in human development and the ways in which attachment, traumas, and other significant life experiences shape how our automatic nervous systems respond to environmental triggers, brain structure, and behaviors at each different life cycle stage. Anxiety, anger, mood shifts, loneliness, loss, detachment, fear of trust, chronic illness, people with higher sensitivities- these are some of my top areas.

We all suffer challenges in life and oftentimes therapy is the answer to those challenges. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in individual and family work.
