Feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure where to turn for help can be incredibly daunting. Many of us struggle with the sense that solutions are out of reach and that our challenges are insurmountable. If you’re navigating these feelings alone, it’s important to know that support is available and that there are pathways to healing.

Let’s talk healing! Our therapist is Irma Romero MS, LCPC. Her relationship with clients is focused on compassion, empathy, respect, trust, and being real, there is no judgment here (solution-focused and person-centered). She makes counseling open and as easy as possible, by establishing a safe space for healing and growth that offers confidentiality, and room to gain insight and awareness. Therapy work may be tough but talking to your therapist should never be difficult or awkward. To book an appointment go to our website.

TELE-THERAPY IS NOW AVAILABLE.... Therapy is a collaborative process between clients and the therapist. Treatment will attempt to help your family process those struggles and move through them so you will be able to handle things that arise in the future. Combining compassion and common sense with formal training and experience is the most effective way to help patients deal with challenges they are facing. Therapy should help change come about in the very first session. Of course, problems are not solved immediately, but every meeting should bring new possibilities and hope for change that will last.

My most improved clients are the ones who have been told they're too smart for their own good, struggle with existential or spiritual angst, feel displaced, want to be pushed and challenged while utterly supported, need clarity on whether or not they have victimized or been victimized, have questions for which they have been told there are no answers, suffer from unprocessed or complicated grief, need help applying the knowledge they already posses, who feel like they are "too much," are afraid of feelings, and require an absolutely neutral and judgement free space to be vulnerable.

Do you find yourself hiding aspects of who you are out of fear of not being accepted or understood? Whether it be depression, anxiety, or another mental health related issue, living our lives each day trying to hide aspects of who we are can be extremely difficult and draining. I specialize in helping clients access and accept themselves at their core so that they can live a life that is fulfilling to who they truly are. In couples therapy, I help partners create safety within the relationship that will allow each partner to invite the other into those deep, dark areas where fear resides and where they deserve love the most.

Everyone has a sense of personal identify. How do you think about yourself? What is important to you? Identities are often imposed or at the very least encouraged by environmental or cultural forces. As a child, were you routinely told, "You can do it!,” or were you more often told; “You can’t do anything right?” The things we hear as children are usually the very things that create our sense of self. Early in life, sense of self is associated with security, protection, and acceptance. If our identity is strongly developed in the early years of life, this helps to protect us against the challenges in life.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth. I see therapy as a warm and safe space to explore your feelings, needs, and worries, learn coping strategies, and move toward greater balance, joy, and self-compassion. A place where you can feel seen and heard and then grow! I help adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem defeat their inner critics and have fulfilling lives and relationships, especially those who are Highly Sensitive (HSP). I also help socially anxious children and adults who struggle with confidence challenge negative thinking and pursue their goals. And I help disconnected couples conquer conflict and reconnect.

Embarking on the path of therapy is a deeply personal voyage. For individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, it is especially crucial to have a therapist who intimately understands their journey, as they grapple with unique stressors often unfamiliar to the mainstream. Navigating challenges such as discrimination, family disclosure, and the pursuit of an authentic identity in the face of societal pressures can contribute to heightened levels of depression, anxiety, substance dependency, and even thoughts of self-harm. Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
