Additionally, I work with those who are enduring any stage of motherhood, experiencing perinatal anxiety/depression or mood disorders, or struggling with finding yourself again as a mother.
As a woman and/or mother, it can feel like you are buried underneath the relentless demands of everyone else in your life. It can leave you feeling invisible, angry, & exhausted. It doesn’t have to feel that way - together we can uncover your needs, wants, & desires so you can create a satisfying, fulfilling, and connected life. In therapy, I hold space for you to explore what your needs are, & examine the barriers & relationship patterns that might be keeping you tired & feeling stuck. Together we will develop an understanding of yourself that ultimately empowers you to use your voice & implement the change you need & want.

Before becoming a therapist, I was a birth professional for 10+ years, giving me extensive insight into the challenges of pregnancy, birth, new parenthood, and relationship changes in the childbearing year.
I specialize in trauma/PTSD, childbirth trauma, perinatal disorders, and couples counseling using a wide range of evidence-based modalities, including traditional "talk therapy," and neuro-based approaches such as EMDR. Trauma, such as childhood abuse, sexual violence, domestic violence, etc., can create chaos in many areas of your life, including relationships, parenting, work/school performance, and even your physical health. My goal is to provide a safe and compassionate space where we can explore not just the trauma itself, but also how it intersects with other issues and patterns in your life.

I help moms thrive without fear, anxiety and overwhelm. My clients struggle as you do. Despite being strong, capable and amazing, life is hard. Even harder really since becoming a mom. When you first come in, you’re struggling to know yourself, inundated with overwhelm, fear, worry and a heavy load. Everyone’s load may look different, but it’s heavy. With EMDR, moms can begin to feel less overwhelmed, less triggered, less anxious and there’s room for more joy!

Everyone deserves a non-judgmental and safe space to express themselves and embark on a healing journey. My specialization lies in supporting the perinatal population dealing with challenges such as stress, trauma, anxiety/depression, fertility issues, grief, body image/self-esteem concerns, and various life adjustments both before and after childbirth. I firmly believe in the importance of a robust support system during the prenatal and postpartum stages for both women and men.

My ideal client consists of anyone who is struggling with their mental health. I enjoy supporting people in all life stages and transitions, and primarily work alongside parents who are encountering challenges with anxiety, depression, and PMADs. Even though perinatal and maternal mental health is a large focus of mine, I also enjoy working alongside others who do not identify as parents.

I am a twin mom who became fiercely passionate about working with women after my own pregnancy journey. Navigating a complex system with a lack of resources for new mothers made me realize that I needed to shift my career focus to creating a space for new moms to heal mentally, physically, and spiritually after having a new baby. I am an avid runner and health coach in addition to being a therapist. Integrating movement and holistic wellness is a critical component to my approach in therapy. I am currently offering virtual therapy appointments in TN, SC, and NC. I will opening my private practice to take in-person clients soon.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
