My focus as a therapist is on healing trauma through the attachment lens. When defining trauma, I like to quote Gabor Mate who states that Trauma is not what happens to you, it is what happens inside you. The traumatic event may have been the abandonment that happened years ago, but the trauma itself is the crippling fear inside when someone we love doesn't respond quickly enough. Unfortunately, we can't change the past, but we Can change the ways it affects our present and our future. I hope to offer you closure by helping you understand the How and Why of your trauma.
I focus on treating trauma, relationship issues, and addiction through the lens of Attachment. Attachment is all about learning how survival strategies that kept us safe in childhood hurt us as adults. I will help you forgive your inner child, and from there, you will heal, and learn ways to develop safe and healthy relationships moving forward.
As a queer Uruguayan-American, I have experience with and do fantastic work with the immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities, as well as with people in recovery. My Hispanic identity shows in my appreciation of family and community. My queer identity is visible in the way I celebrate identity and self-expression!
