I am a mindfulness--centered psychotherapist and have worked very successfully with anxiety, OCD, addiction (alcohol, marijuana, vaping, shopping), panic, trauma, depression, phobias, impulse control issues, stress and other issues of suffering. Mindfulness-centered therapy works remarkably well even with the most difficult to treat issues. It addresses the root cause of emotional suffering, bringing you to a place of lasting inner peace and contentment. It will help you to deal successfully with the triggers that life continuously presents to you. To view my video and written testimonials, click on the website box above.

After receiving a diagnosis of OCD early in life, I remember how difficult it was to seek out a therapist and begin tackling my fears.
Is anxiety or OCD keeping you from enjoying life or achieving your goals? Do you get caught in the same fears, over and over? Chronic anxiety is exhausting and takes a major toll on relationships, work, and well-being. Thankfully, there's a way to regain your footing and lead a more fulfilling life.

I primarily specialize in anxiety disorders, with a particular focus on OCD.
In psychotherapy, the therapeutic relationship plays a central role in fostering change and personal growth. I aim to establish the trust and support necessary for achieving therapeutic goals. Psychotherapy involves identifying and addressing challenges while removing obstacles to lead a more fulfilling, authentic, and meaningful life. I believe there is an inherent wisdom within each of us, but we sometimes become lost and lose our connection. I approach the client with warmth, understanding, and mutual respect, serving as a supportive ally on the path to healing.

My practice is designed to help clients work through issues, current or historical, which are keeping them from a full and contented life . I have over 20 years counseling experience. My specialties are eating disorders of all types, trauma and OCD treatment. Because, eating disorders co-occur with many other psychological diagnoses including PTSD, OCD, and various anxiety and mood and personality disorders, I have learned to employ a variety of techniques to achieve results, and not stick to a "one-size-fits-all" treatment approach.

With 15 years of mental health experience, I have had the honor of assisting clients of all age ranges and across a wide variety of concerns, most notably: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia, addiction, eating disorders, homelessness, and self-harm.
My passion for working with people to rise above the most difficult times in life began when I was a young child working with a counselor to treat my own anxiety and trauma. I understand what it feels like to struggle without knowing how to cope. I also know how it feels to find relief through working with a counselor to harness strength and develop life-long skills to recover and manage health. From that time on I dedicated myself to pursuing my masters degree in Clinical Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University. I am trained in motivational interviewing, therapeutic crisis intervention, and behavioral management.

Many of my clients come to me with mental blocks or performance issues they aren't sure how to navigate and are getting in the way of their overall performance and wellbeing. Sometimes, these mental blocks are associated with concerns like depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma (sport and non-sport related), or more, and sometimes, they are strictly related to performance concerns only. Together, we explore these concerns and develop individual tools to implement in their daily and performance lives.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
