I utilize a grief-informed lens and recognize that grief can surface in situations that do not always involve physical death.
Adjusting to major life transitions can take a toll on your mental health and overall wellbeing. Whether you are looking for help coping with a change in relationship, career, or family, finding and embracing your identity, enduring the grief of a loved one, or healing from past traumas, we can work together to decrease the suffering and find some enjoyment in life. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults through issues such as depression, anxiety, phobias, trauma, and grief. I strive to create a compassionate and comfortable space to get to know you and encourage your personal growth.

I come from a diverse background treating grief and loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions, abuse, gender and sexual minority concerns, self esteem and body image, and cancer and other long-term illness.
I work from a person-centered approach, using humor, mindfulness, and acceptance as tools of healing and transformation. I believe in the need to broaden our view from seeing individual struggles as collective, moving towards solutions that foster interdependence and equity. I approach counseling as a co-creation, and I consider my role to be an insightful companion through the process. I trust the inherent wholeness of each individual. My clinical focus includes fat liberation/anti-diet body image, grief and loss, fertility challenges/pregnancy loss, family and relationship struggles, and life transitions.

I first learned about grief and trauma from lineages that predate therapy and western culture.
Clients who see me are often drawn to doing emotional and cognitive work, wanting to explore new perspectives and unlearn patterns that no longer serve them, while also tending to their body and spirit. They want to carve out their own path to healing, one that speaks to their values, culture, and personal needs. They want to embrace evidence-based approaches, while also having space to be creative and lean into their own wisdom. They have usually experienced loss, trauma and/or a form of violence (interpersonal, war, self, workplace). They are bravely ready for change.

This can be exampled in grief; loss of a loved one or parts of ourselves, depression, loss of identity and anxiety.
Are you feeling anxious? Do you ruminate in your thoughts and situations you feel like you don't have control over? Do you feel like life is sometimes overwhelming? Do you have past trauma that makes it difficult to trust people and your decisions? Acknowledging that life is uncertain and not knowing how to move forward is a step in a healthy direction. I believe that building safety and trust with clients, encourages self-exploration and growth.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
