I know you're more than your story, your pain, joy, social identity & experiences. As a South Asian immigrant, I proactively advocate for my clients both inside and outside the therapy room. I will show up for you if you need help involving other family or partner participants in therapy sessions. I connect a session with the next session with a journaling prompt or a big feeling exploration during the week. I also make sure I do not abruptly end sessions and take the last few minutes to do some grounding and mindfulness exercises helping clients feel less overwhelmed when they leave the therapy room.

Do you ever feel torn, like you’re yearning to move forward yet frozen in time? Together, we'll unravel these conflicting emotions so you can move toward a life of greater meaning and fulfillment. I support those who feel isolated, trapped, or struggling to fit within societal norms. I also help members of the LGBTQ+ community to navigate challenges of marginalization and identity. These feelings are often rooted in past trauma and could potentially lead to substance use, addiction, and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

I work well with clients who are focusing on emerging adulthood, coming of age, and life transitions such as ending high school and college and beginning the workforce. Individuals struggling with anxiety around becoming an adult and gaining their independence will find healthy ways to cope with these changes, space to process the struggles they are facing, and will have the opportunity to work towards their goals that we discuss in sessions.

Being neurodivergent, part of the Transgender community, or in a non-monogamous relationship can feel isolating and like you are moving through life differently than everyone else around you. Our lives change. Some of these changes are welcomed while others can be overwhelming and create fear. When your life becomes difficult to manage, when there is regular conflict among family members, when anger and addictions become the preferred way of addressing concerns, when sadness has replaced optimism, it it time to seek the support of a counselor or family therapist. I am always honored to be invited into an individual's or family's personal story, to listen, to support, to create solutions. My therapy, in addition to offering accepted treatment practices, offers each person the respect they deserve in a safe environment.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
