I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiental Dynamic Psychotherapy ( AEDP) and EMDR.
Clients come to me for many reasons, but the common theme is that somehow they feel they have strayed from a path that is right for them, and somewhere along the way they have disconnected from their authentic selves. I help clients remember what it was that sparked joy and playfulness as a child and bring that spirit back into their lives as adults.

I particularly enjoy working with clients who are seeking some level of self-understanding. Clients going through major life transitions and developmental stages throughout the lifespan I find benefit the most from my approach.

Times of crisis are not only occasions that require mindful problem-solving, but can also be opportunities for personal growth. Psychotherapy should provide a calm and supportive setting to reduce anxiety and stress, increase a sense of confidence and competence, and promote the establishment of more satisfying connections to others. My training encompasses psychodynamic, experiential, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems therapy. I work actively and collaboratively with individuals (from 8 to 85), couples, and families. I also provide neuropsychological evaluations for children and adults experiencing difficulties in personal, academic, or occupational functioning.

My clinical practice style is eclectic, influenced by AEDP (certified Level One,) IFS, psychodynamic, and CBT, along with meditation/mindfulness training, and I am a certified yoga instructor.
Psychotherapy should be individualized, supportive, adaptive, and promote increased feelings of wellbeing, a heightened sense of competence or mastery, enhanced coping skills, stress reduction, and improved interpersonal relationships. Everyone is different, and our first sessions will focus on an exploration of your unique needs, strengths, preferences and abilities. Psychotherapy can be brief and solution-focused, but is often a lengthier relationship in which we examine lifelong themes and patterns. Please note, I typically work with individuals who can make a regular, weekly commitment to attend therapy.

You are stuck in a dark maze carrying the crushing pressure of the world to succeed on your chest. While everybody is at the finish line of the race, you are handcuffed to the beginning of the line. The isolation and loneliness feel like a void in the pit of your stomach that is never filled. The emotions are like waves in the ocean, when it comes, it drowns you, and when it's quiet, it's boxed up in a container ready to explode. My post-grad includes the New York School for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with extensive training in AEDP (focus on here-and-now relational and body - somatic) and EMDR for dating and breakups.

I have been practicing, teaching, and writing about AEDP ( Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) for over 25 years.
People often come to me because they recognize something is not working and they are willing to admit that it is no longer fruitful to simply try to figure it out on their own. They are open to self-reflection, new ideas for coping, self-care, and communication with others. People present with all kinds of issues: depression and anxiety, relational struggles, difficulty connecting to what they want and following through on goals, unresolved trauma from the past or present, the use of coping mechanisms that had been helpful, but no longer are, and challenges posed by various life-stage transitions. We all need support in hard times.

Thus, my approach is integrative and experiential, including AEDP, CBT, EFT, EMDR, IFS, mindfulness meditation, and other evidence-based therapies.
I believe we all want to feel safe, to feel genuinely seen, to have meaningful connection, to be able to weather challenges, and to feel, deep down, that we are good enough and not alone. When we better understand our inner patterns and all our parts feel welcome and seen, then we can tap into the natural ability of our brains and bodies to learn and transform. Beneath our protective defenses and habits, I believe every one of us is curious, courageous, loving, and worthy of love. As flowers turn toward the sun, humans are evolved for resilience. I work closely with clients to rediscover their natural inner resources for healing.

Is your marriage stuck in “replay mode”? Do you and your partner keep repeating the same argument, despite your best intentions? Have you ever been plagued with doubts about whether you and your partner are meant for each other? The stressors in our lives and small infractions can stack up like bricks, building a wall between ourselves and those we love. The higher the wall, the more intimidating it is to tackle. If that sounds familiar, then you’re in the right place. I guide couples to examine the foundations of these walls—the deep-rooted fears and desires that manifest themselves as grievances with their significant other.

AEDP Therapists

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioral avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behavior play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
