Welcome. I help adults struggling with concerns such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, trauma, work-stress, and general life dissatisfaction. I can also help someone clarify what might have gone wrong when they feel stuck, are unable to stop an unwanted feeling, or are struggling to make the changes they desire. My ultimate goal in conducting therapy is to ensure that my clients feel that they are living life as full-potential versions of themselves.

Imagine your life as a bookshelf: It may feel like the “TRAUMA” book is the only one on your shelf. It’s big and heavy and it hurts to think about opening it. In our work together you will learn how to build a library full of rich life experiences around what you’ve already survived. You won’t have to numb the pain. You won’t have to minimize what you feel to make others comfortable. You will get to process your traumas and feel present for the first time in a long time, or maybe in your life.

I have helped people with eating disorders, addictions, and trauma for over a decade.
Ever wonder if drinking, substance use, or disordered eating are starting to become a problem? Look no further. People come to me to figure out how to heal their relationship with food and their bodies - to overcome perfectionism and people pleasing - to stop relying on alcohol and drugs to make the pain stop. Taking the first step towards asking for help is hard, but know that I will welcome you without judgement. I know that you’re here because you want the cycle to stop. I want to help you develop the skills to stop obsessing, to stop beating yourself up, and to remove the things that get in the way of you living your life.

My unique training in both behavioral and somatic therapies allows me to craft a treatment plan with your input that best fits your needs. I believe in utilizing the wisdom of the body , the rich information present in emotions, an examination of how you show up in the world behaviorally, and the way your mind has learned to protect you in order to guide you toward resiliency and improved coping with daily life. You will learn coping skills through mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and somatic resourcing. We talk and problem solve when needed and somatically process when indicated.

We often hear that healing and growth is not linear. Working on ourselves and our relationships is an ongoing process with its ups and downs. Just when we think we're out of the woods, life reminds us of its unpredictability. If life is consistently inconsistent, how can we best adjust, work towards acceptance, and reduce our suffering? Our willingness to work towards self improvement can shift like the wind and when our motivation and energy dwindles, so does our trust in ourselves and those around us. As fear, anxiety, sadness, and even hopelessness settles in, tackling simple tasks seems unattainable.

When uncomfortable feelings like anxiety, sadness, loneliness, anger, shame, guilt, or confusion overwhelm us, we often try to make them disappear or ignore them. This might work temporarily, but often those feelings come back and keep us from solving problems, improving our situation and moving forward.

One of the most difficult things to do is to recognize we need help... for even the strongest and most healthy can need a trusted mentor and healer at some point. Our personal lives and experiences shouldn't be trusted to just anyone; and it is difficult to find a qualified therapist who is both skilled in their work and able to connect with others in an empathetic way. Rob has this blend of unique and important abilities. He believes that successful therapy is working toward the ability to heal, recover, and thrive in one's life. Rob is a Clinical Director at Minisink Psychology & Psychotherapy in Ridgewood, NJ.

Trauma resulting from grief/loss, domestic violence, sexual assault, and families effected by substance use SUD, are areas of which I specialize.
Asking for help is not a weakness, it is the recognition of self awareness to grow and heal. Do you struggle to manage daily stressors or life quakes from past trauma? Do you need additional tools to navigate uncharted territory? I will honor your space while you bridge the old into the new. We all experience life events differently and individually, so my approach will fit your specific needs. Your story is very personal to you and we can use this to empower your process. Focusing on the things we can change are essential to those we cannot. Let us begin to explore and learn more.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
