Many of us find ourselves on a difficult path of self growth, realization, and identity. That road firmly establishes who we are; but, like anything worthwhile, is full of trials, missteps, and challenges. Nowhere, though, in our experience to build our lives does it say that our journey must be alone and without support, care, and the commitment of a dedicated collaborator. I believe everyone deserves an approach to therapy that is as unique as their own experiences, is affirmative, and consensual.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Juggling school or work, relationships, and the constant presence of social media can be a lot to manage. You may find yourself feeling anxious, sad, or stressed more frequently than you'd prefer, and it might be tough to open up about it. Perhaps you’re feeling irritable, lashing out at others, or just need support in understanding something is happening and how to improve.

I hope for my clients to walk away from therapy feeling like they can handle whatever bumps they may encounter in life. This can happen by becoming aware of habits and patterns that are problematic; fully exploring and understanding them spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and then coming up with alternative ways of navigating. I offer short and long term treatment options as well as a sliding scale fee when appropriate. I enjoy teaching meditation so that people can move through the world from a place of mindfulness.

I have extensive experience working from an interpersonal perspective with adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, loss and adjustment to life changes (e.g. illness, divorce). I view people as resilient and help clients to use their strengths and resources to make positive changes in their lives.

The therapeutic relationship that develops between us, can lead to both introspection and healing. I am a licensed psychologist specializing predominantly in the well being of women across a range of issues including eating disorders, relationship struggles, infertility, anxiety, and post-partum depression. I am also interested in helping people through life transitions, such as entering a new relationship or becoming single again, beginning college, entering the "real world", and becoming a mother.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
