First - welcome. The path to pursuing therapy and facing life’s challenges (both new and old) may feel daunting. You’re no longer holding your anxiety, worries, grief, stress and sadness alone. I’m here to help. A little about me: My name is Meghan and I’m a Licensed Associate Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Stepping into a session with me would look like harnessing your authentic self, and having me meet you there as a clinician. I utilize a strength-based approach to my therapeutic practice. Empathy, honesty, open-mindedness, challenge and kindness are used throughout the process.

I have 30 years experience working within the field of mental health and developmental disorders. I recognize that by the time someone seeks out a therapist, they are already in the amidst of their struggle. They are looking for the right person to assist them in developing skills and processing their thoughts/behaviors so that they can begin to resume their lives again. I am a Board Certified Telemental Health provider, a Director within a CMHC and recognize the need to often introduce a vast array of resources to my clients. I can rattle on about my 30 years of experience and training and all of that but it’s not what drives my passion and love for this work. I believe in the healing power of relationship itself. Building trust and sharing human connection is what creates the safe bond that is necessary for processing pain, trauma, and all of the other stuff of life! How’s that for clinical jargon?! What I want to convey is love above all else, which you will find here in our work together. And not to worry, loving and receiving love can be hard especially if you've struggled in your life. Learning how to love will become your greatest superpower.

The amazing thing is, we can all feel so much better than we do right now - even if we're already feeling quite well. But if you're looking at this website, odds are that you haven't been feeling your best lately. That can change, and it's way less complicated than you may imagine. We all have a body. And the wonderful thing about our bodies is that they are built with an inherent capacity and inclination towards healing. At Equinimity Therapy NJ, I will help you harness that inherent drive and capability so you can endure, process, and even grow from major life changes, traumatic events, and mental health challenges.

As a licensed counselor, my goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows you to grow. By prioritizing the therapeutic relationship, I hope to extend warmth and compassion that will allow you to lean into vulnerability and heal. Body image, self-concept & values clarification are passions of mine. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families looking to gain deeper insight into relationship dynamics, attachment style, nervous system regulation & self-exploration. I work most naturally through a feminist & existential lens while knowing there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Building on an existential and philosophical framework I incorporate contemporary research, CBT, and humanistic techniques.
As a counselor, my goal is to inspire actualized change. A large part of that process is forming a strong working relationship to determine where you find fulfillment, derive meaning, and how you exist in the here and now. I'm a firm believer that the worldview we hold and the narratives we perpetuate dictate how we navigate life's nuances so, we often start there. Once we strip the old stories and ego, what are we left with? On the other side of anger, self-doubt, anxiety, self-criticism, depression, grief, addiction, or whatever your concerns may be—Who are you? I'm excited to embark on the journey to that state of being with you.

However, I am skilled in CBT and Existential Therapy.
Trauma is often the root of our struggles. Childhood and adult trauma can leave visible and invisible marks on our bodies and souls. These marks show up in our relationships, our parenting, and our physical health, among other places. It takes bravery to face the feelings that trauma brings up within us. I tailor my techniques and connections to the individual needs of each person who walks through my door because not one of us can, or should, be boxed into a category. I specialize in working with adults; individuals, couples, and families.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
