Real life can be beautiful and complicated at times. Sometimes our inner voice shines brightly and guides us towards a peaceful path and other times it may feel as if we have no inner guide at all. This can very much be the case when we enter motherhood. The transition and change associated with this new role can feel very heavy and overwhelming. I am passionate about helping to support all women across the continuum of their lives, especially those newly entering motherhood. I have a focus on maternal mental health including postpartum depression and anxiety, traumatic birth, loss, and acclimation to new parenthood.

My approach primarily utilizes IFS and integrates concepts of CBT and DBT, bolstered by an attachment and systems orientation.
We all have a life narrative; some experiences are easy to understand, while others we may try to reject or avoid. Our narrative can be unfairly written with past emotional pain and we’re left to shoulder the burden of these experiences, which may manifest as anxiety, depression, grief, anger, etc. Each of these experiences are part of your greater story, linking from one to another, all of which has shaped you to be the person you are today. The process of self-exploration, change, and healing from these experiences is challenging, highlighting the importance of finding the right therapist for you.

My intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy; for people with extreme emotion regulation problems to improve skills in emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and mindfulness is unique to my practice as well as my recent acquisition of certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional.
In my practice I take a collaborative approach with adult clients. Together we seek balance, change and acceptance. These factors contribute to achievement of pleasure and fulfillment in life and relationships. My strength is that I incorporate the theory of cognitive therapy with the concept that past experiences and interactions have an influence on current beliefs and behavioral patterns. Through this approach, I am able to come to a more complete conceptualization and establish trust and rapport with my clients which enables them to engage in the therapeutic process more fully.

I’m intensively trained in DBT, Brainspotting 1 and 2, and perinatal mental health through PSI.
You’re an empathic, sensitive and creative woman who is finally ready to motivate and find meaning, but stuck in a negative spiral and struggling with emotions. Many creative and empathic women struggle with highly sensitive temperaments and appear typical on the outside but often feel like a hot mess and struggle in their relationships, parenting, careers, health. We can’t get rid of emotions, nor do we want to! It’s what makes us human! Anyone can benefit from learning ways to better regulate or express emotions. Anxiety and emotions can suck, but I can help you cope better.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
