My ideal client would be 13-21-year-old males with issues such as depression and anger issues, their goal is to discover their strengths and build positive relationships with family and peers. They want an outlet to talk about their feelings and need an outside source to share too.

I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, and will strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and accepting environment for you to fully explore your concerns.

I strive to uphold cultural humility each day. Specifically, respecting all individuals and their values, beliefs, and opinions. A person’s background and culture highlights the wonderful qualities about them which deserve to be recognized and respected. I also strive to continue dis mantling the stigma of mental health treatment each day. Struggling with mental health issues is one that is not only common, but also can be normal! I believe that the need to talk and process life with another person should not be stigmatized. Therefore, each day I work to promote a non-judgmental, friendly, accepting, and safe space for people.

As an African-American cisgender male, I aspire to use my position in the field of therapy to enhance the sense of ease and acceptance for minorities and men seeking clinical assistance.
Seeking help is a courageous act, and I admire my clients for taking the first step. I believe that each client is unique and that there is not a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. I aim to provide a non-judgmental environment for you to talk about your concerns and issues comfortably. It is crucial to approach such discussions with an unwavering sense of respect and unconditional positive regard for each person's unique journey. Through constructive conversation, we will work together to unravel the underlying emotions and thoughts that drive behaviors and to collaboratively tackle the areas of your life that you wish to transform.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, or the loss of a loved one with a sense of feeling lost, hopeless, and without purpose? Are you struggling with life transitions & open to delving deeper to explore those issues? I primarily work with men like this, who have arrived at this point in life feeling "stuck" or "at a dead end," struggling with relationship issues and feeling disconnected & frustrated. OCD is a heavy burden. And it feels even heavier when nothing seems to help, including therapy. Maybe you feel that OCD is just something you have to tolerate for the rest of your life. I don’t believe that “coping” is your only option. I believe OCD is treatable. And I believe you can make deep-seated and long-lasting change. Together, we’ll look beyond your diagnosis and subtype, and understand the beliefs that maintain the OCD in your life. This can be daunting, but I’ll be there with you every step of the way offering guidance and support.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
