Take Courage provides individual, group, family, and adolescent counseling.
Carl Jung once said "Im not what happened to me, I'm what I choose to become". Life produces circumstances which weigh one down, cause a sense of burden, oppression, even feelings of guilt and shame. Here at Take Courage Counseling the journey is a gentle and a secure passage towards empowerment, security, and insight into the matters which we once allowed to take our power.

I fully understand the challenges that you are facing in today's world. From my years of experience, I have found that many people have been feeling disconnected and isolated from one another. They might have some trouble communicating or they might feel stuck in their relationships. In addition, social media ( Internet, Facebook, advanced cell phones, Twitter, etc) has created additional challenges for the parents in trying to raise their children. My counseling will help you to learn new techniques to create loving, caring and deeper relationship with others.

Working with adults, children, families, and couples, my experience of more than 30 years in both clinical and school psychology has helped to define my role as a therapist. My major areas of practice are anxiety, stress management, depression, parenting issues, relationship issues, marital issues and divorce management, ADHD in both adults and children, school-related issues and workplace issues. I attempt to empower clients to change self-defeating behavior patterns based on negative thinking and faulty learning experiences.

You may be looking at this profile because you feel you've run out of options. Maybe you've been wrestling with overwhelming anxiety or depression, or you feel trapped in your mind and spiraling in ways you know aren't healthy. Perhaps you feel pressure--from within yourself or from the people around you--to be "put together," but you find yourself hiding the real turmoil going on under the surface. No matter the reason, I have a deep respect for the courage it takes to enter this space and begin this work.

I have worked with the adolescent population within the school setting as a special educator and school counselor.
My areas of strength are relationship building and my compassion and warmth when working with adolescents and adults. I am able to build a sense of strength and hope with clients that I work with in treatment. I have a realistic and reasonable approach in meeting the individual needs of clients. I believe that each person requires personalized treatment and needs to be communicated with throughout the therapy process.

Specializing in adolescent issues, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and life transitions, I provide outpatient counseling for teens, adults, couples, and families, in a comfortable private setting.
My approach is eclectic, with a combination of client centered and cognitive-behavioral philosophy. I strongly believe that the most important predictor of potential success in therapy is the initial connection and development of a client-therapist relationship.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
