Working with adults, children, families, and couples, my experience of more than 30 years in both clinical and school psychology has helped to define my role as a therapist. My major areas of practice are anxiety, stress management, depression, parenting issues, relationship issues, marital issues and divorce management, ADHD in both adults and children, school-related issues and workplace issues. I attempt to empower clients to change self-defeating behavior patterns based on negative thinking and faulty learning experiences.

You may be looking at this profile because you feel you've run out of options. Maybe you've been wrestling with overwhelming anxiety or depression, or you feel trapped in your mind and spiraling in ways you know aren't healthy. Perhaps you feel pressure--from within yourself or from the people around you--to be "put together," but you find yourself hiding the real turmoil going on under the surface. No matter the reason, I have a deep respect for the courage it takes to enter this space and begin this work.

Welcome. I am accepting new clients. It comes second nature to me to listen, support and help people. I have always been the friend you talk to when you’re going through a tough time, as well as the person who speaks up for others when something isn’t right. I am drawn to understanding people’s experiences and how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors are interconnected. I have always enjoyed connecting with others on a deeper level and through this work I can do so.

I work with parents of children whose intensity is due to a number of factors -- ADHD, learning differences, anxiety and even giftedness.
Have you ever said: "No one ever taught me how to be a parent or spouse?" Perhaps navigating the relationships at work is posing a challenge. I help clients look at patterns of communication and behaviors that aren't working and help them understand their origins. Together, we develop an understanding of what is causing the difficulties so that we may address them successfully. I've been a psychologist for 25 years, helping clients enhance their relationships with family members, friends and colleagues. While much of my work is with adults, I am also a child psychologist.

We started the Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy with one mission: to help children, adolescents, and young adults live more meaningful and productive lives. Both raising a child and being one are tall orders in today’s climate. And having a psychological condition often compounds the challenges. When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
