I draw from an array of systemic modalities: mindfulness, structural, narrative, and emotionally focused therapy, to help clients become a better version of themselves.
Seeking to connect with a therapist or counselor during challenging times in our lifetime is a courageous act; one in which is not to be taken lightly. As a first-generation immigrant, familiarity with cultural norms and expectations can be oftentimes misunderstood. Each of us have our own unique familial and cultural ways of engaging and navigating in relationships and handling marital issues, family conflicts, work stressors, and even our self-worth and self-care. I would love to assist in exploring and navigating this process with you to gain better balance in a greater, healthier, and graceful manner.

It is my belief that through exploration and collaboration, your life can change for the better. "Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life." ~ Shannon L. Alder. I enjoy working closely with people and I am honored when they share their lives with me. I've spent my entire career walking with people through difficult times, mental illness and the challenges associated with parenting today's youth.

I love to connect with teens, adults, and couples to overcome things like family conflict, relationship issues, academic and social challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and grief. With adults and teens, I draw on CBT and attachment techniques to strengthen connection and communication within families and help clients gain insight, develop a healthy identity, and meet their goals. With couples, I use the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach to resolving conflict, feeling understood, and increasing emotional connection. See if I am accepting new clients and book online at www.resolutioncc.com/team

You're still grappling with the lingering trauma and grief from your past. Life’s painful experiences have affected relationships with your partner, children, parents, or friends. You've made efforts to improve your situation, but nothing seems to change. You might also feel like you are walking through your situation alone.

I take an integrative approach to my work - I do not believe "one-size-fits-all. I am accepting adult clients only for individual therapy. I am licensed in DE, NJ and NY. As the child of immigrants, I appreciate the challenges of negotiating between different cultures. Some members of immigrant communities are afraid of seeking help for mental illness. They fear being labeled negatively, shunned and stigmatized. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of misinformation about mental illness (e.g. you must be sick, crazy, weak if you seek therapy). Sadly, not enough people seek the help they need and deserve.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
