I work with couples, individuals and families to help them accomplish small and large life goals. Together we overcome the obstacles You are encountering. My practice focuses on helping adolescents and adults who are struggling to overcome anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders. I have particular expertise in working with men of all ages. I also focus on couples that are struggling to resolve differences and achieve greater harmony and intimacy. Often, differing parenting styles contribute to disconnects within a couple, particularly when parenting children with emotional, behavioral or developmental challenges and differences. I work with such couples to create a more unified parenting structure and to strike the important balance of familial obligation and self-care.

I have experience with several treatment modalities and approaches, including EMDR, IFS, CBT, ACT, and DBT.
Worry. Restlessness. Poor Concentration. Intrusive Thoughts. Panic. Our mental health can serve as a major disruption to our lives. I admire your courage in taking this step to seek out help. As your therapist, I will first strive to understand your story. Then, we will collaboratively identify a therapeutic approach that will best fit your goals. Often times, our past impacts our present . Therefore, we can strive to not only address your current symptoms, but attempt to resolve the root causes to your problems, such as unresolved trauma. We don’t always realize how much old emotional wounds are still causing us pain.

Different modalities used Parts Work, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and Restorative Justice.
The primitive brain can take over, when it does we can be harsh on ourselves and carry feelings like an anchor. When one area of our life is off, it impacts others areas like a leaky faucet too slow to notice and life begins to flood. We know to swim to survive but don't think float to save our energy. This struggle leads to exhaustion and a series of emotions that create new issues. Hurt people; hurt people. Becoming present & reflecting, leads to peace. If we could take a step back to see what needs solving? Things are not black and white, there is a lot of gray in between; things can co-exist. www.mindfulmindscounseling.com

I pull from a variety of approaches including somatics, mindfulness (MBSR), IFS, ACT, EFT, Havening Trauma Reprocessing, & Attachment Theory.
You're a pretty self-aware person...You have your shit together, but find yourself overthinking, ruminating, and generally anxious. You may struggle to deal with conflict, have balance in your relationships, set boundaries, or find peace within the chaos of managing life in general. Navigating relationship issues, life transitions, healing traumas, or simply daily stress can get overwhelming & confusing. The choice to go to therapy and invest time in yourself and your wellbeing is a radical act of self-care, bravery, and accountability.

I have primarily treated patients with issues related to relationships, intimacy, anxiety, depression, identity, existential, religious, spiritual, gender, racial, adolescence, family systems, and organizational issues while focusing on productive goals.
I had my first position as a counselor when I was just 20 and the compassion that lived through me then continues 48 years later. While developing professionally I enrolled in a personal individual and group training analysis and had a deep and caring experience as a patient. I consider it an incredible responsibility to practice as an integrative healer as I believe the therapeutic relationship is a privilege between two people. I continue to cultivate my personal practice, evolving throughout my life with an open heart, and open mind. My mother, and father remain central influences in my practice as a psychologist/psychoanalyst.

Techniques you may experiment with in our work could include mindfulness, witnessing, walking sessions, personal narrative, psychoeducation, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems.
I want you to have the best life imaginable: to live in a body that can feel what it feels and with a mind that can know what it knows. I believe we heal through connection and relationship; it is how we survive then thrive. Sometimes we need to make meaning of our experiences; sometimes we just want to manage or reduce unwanted symptoms and sometimes we need someone to simply be present- to sit and witness and listen or hold the silence. I hope you will find all these elements working with me and together we will walk the path to healing. Come in and let's explore together!

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
