Leaving a toxic relationship is very, very difficult. Manipulation, gaslighting, coercion, shame, self-doubt and sense of a lost self can keep you trapped in the abuse. In these types of romantic and familial relationships, people are left feeling confused and selfish for having their own needs and convinced that they must make the other person happy at all costs. Even when people want to leave, the trauma bond ignites regions of the brain that cause you to feel out of control and "tied" to the relationship. Disengaging from this type of emotional tyranny is possible but requires a deep internal rewiring and grieving.

We work with depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, eating disorders, bereavement, borderline, autism, ADHD, addiction, sexual abuse, DV, medical illnesses, relationship problems, LGTBQ+, adjustment disorders and forensic cases.
Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Narcissistic abuse in a relationship diminishes your self esteem, self confidence & overall self worth. Gaslighting, meaning you begin to question your own reality, is just one of the many aspects of this abuse. Depression, Anxiety and PTSD are also common symptoms of this abuse. I have 27 yrs. experience as a therapist & my area of expertise is treating victims of narcissistic abuse/trauma. In addition, I have vast experience working with adults & adolescents who have histories of anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, relationship/marital issues, divorce & life transitions and warriors/families of childhood cancer.

It can be difficult to take that first step to seek help, wondering if you'll select the right therapist and whether the process will make a difference in your life. The clients I work with are often struggling with life transitions-divorce, relationship/marital conflicts, loss of a loved one, life/career decisions-issues that are difficult and can result in anxiety, depression, or anger, and mostly interfere with life satisfaction and functioning at full capability.

I value working with clients from different age groups, gender, and cultural backgrounds. I am highly skilled in individual therapy. I possess extensive experience working with clients who have experienced severe trauma, abuse, and substance abuse dependence. In addition, I have had great success working with clients who are diagnosed with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and personality disorders. I specialize in assessing and treating children, adolescents, and adults who have been victims of trauma in the form of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
A key ingredient to successful therapy is having a strong therapeutic relationship. To foster this relationship I am open and honest with my client's and create an environment that allow the people I work with to feel cared for, safe, and free from judgement. My main treatment method is cognitive behavioral therapy however I take an integrative approach to treatment. I consider the individual needs of my clients, I help them regulate their emotions, manage stressors, and function effectively in their daily lives. I work with my clients collaboratively to develop interventions and coping strategies that work for them.

I also have experience working with trauma survivors, particularly survivors of intimate partner violence.
Throughout life we must develop a relationship with ourselves. During difficult times, we find that relationship can be negative and draining due to our experiences or thought processes. My aim as a therapist is to build a positive and uplifting sense of self with room for growth and changes over time. It is my goal to help clients feel comfortable, happy, and safe in their relationships with themselves. Oftentimes, this involves resolving issues of past and present by creating a harmony among mind, body, and spirit.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
