Many teens today lack the coping skills that are necessary to address life’s ups and downs. They often feel disconnected emotionally, and are unable to handle stress, peer and relationship issues, or the school, college, or work environment. When a teen is struggling with academics, they receive tutoring or support to develop the skills they need to succeed. Emotional health is no different. Teens need tools to help them regulate their emotions, develop connections with others, and create a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle. You can find both my books on Amazon, Mental Health Uncensored: 10 Foundations Every Parent Needs To Know

Do you find yourself unable to sleep because you are so worried about your teen or college student? Did they suffer a trauma that changed them? Do they fight with you, struggle with peer relationships, have poor grades and constant anxiety and sadness? Are you a woman who is drowning in the pressures of managing parenting, marriage, family and work while fighting through your own trauma, depression, low self-esteem and anxiety? Relief can be had! I’ve spent the last fifteen years, helping young people and women navigate through the ups and downs of life. In addition to cognitive behavioral therapy, I am trained as an EMDR therapist.

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Gina believes that therapy should not feel like a chore. Of course, at times, it can be difficult, but she likes to keep things fun, when appropriate, and personable to best serve the needs of the populations she serves. Imagine your life as a bookshelf: It may feel like the “TRAUMA” book is the only one on your shelf. It’s big and heavy and it hurts to think about opening it. In our work together you will learn how to build a library full of rich life experiences around what you’ve already survived. You won’t have to numb the pain. You won’t have to minimize what you feel to make others comfortable. You will get to process your traumas and feel present for the first time in a long time, or maybe in your life.

Thomas Ogden wrote "The most fundamental human need is that of being and becoming more fully oneself...becoming more fully present and alive to one's thoughts, feelings and bodily states." My office is a place where you can be seen, heard and understood without judgment. You can change old patterns of behavior, thoughts, feelings and relationships to help you make different choices in your life. This is worth the effort, time and investment, because you are worth getting to know and grow. You can find an increase in self-awareness, getting to the root of your problems and concerns.

"What you think about you bring about." Think about this quote for a moment. It describes who you are. If you want to change your feelings and behaviors you must first change the way you think. Therapy begins the moment you pick-up the phone. It is my priority to personally respond to all inquiries and first time appointments. My number one goal is to help you make lasting changes in your life and to unleash your inner strength.

Relationships are hard. Feeling like you & your partner are too busy, with no time for each other. That you've grown apart, almost like roommates. Intimacy barely existent. Having the same, unresolved arguments. Uncertain about where your relationship stands. Divorce keeps popping up in your mind. Feel like you keep swiping -- dating scene feels defeating. Looking for hope, a new route for your relationship(s) - rebuilding, reconnecting or separating/divorce or an open relationship. It's scary to embark on individual or couple's therapy, sharing all of this with a stranger, but you're ready to work & create change.

Are you a law enforcement officer who has thought about speaking to a professional regarding a personal or family issue, but have never felt comfortable reaching out for help? The decision to seek outside help is never easy and the process is even harder for those in law enforcement because of serious and real concerns regarding confidentiality. I am completely independent from your department.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
