My name is Maria and I am a licensed social worker with ten years of experience in social services. I received a master’s in social work from Rutgers University in 2011 and a bachelor of arts in psychology from TCNJ in 2005. I am currently receiving clinical supervision and working towards my LCSW. I have provided mental health and substance abuse counseling, in-home and community-based care with seniors and adults who have developmental disabilities, psychiatric case management, brain injury rehabilitation and recreational rehabilitation with veterans.

The Counseling Center at Clark offers a substance abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Program (OP) that combines evidence-based, state of the art treatment with 12 Step principles. Our substance abuse programs are designed for individuals struggling with remaining abstinent from the use of alcohol and drugs. The program we offer is focused on the individual and is designed to enable sober and productive living.

My experience working with both substance use and mental health assist with my holistic approach to therapy. I found my calling within the community serving as an in-home counselor and also attending at Beth Israel Medical Center as a Mental Health Clinician, since 2011. The psychotherapy work focus around Individual and family needs, using Family System, CBT and Strength-Based approach. I'm also experienced with children trauma, behavior issues, anger management, domestic violence, PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. Another passion of mine centers around Immigration. I offer psychosocial evaluations for immigration cases. I am a native Portuguese/Spanish speaker and have experience working with clients with a history of trauma and abuse.

Rene Baez is a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey who has been practicing since 2017. Rene believes in a holistic and client-centered approach that involves the whole person-physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. And what Rene offers is a space that clients can experience the opportunity to grow and heal with no judgement and no limits. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families on issues related to addiction, infidelity and trust, self esteem, depression, anxiety, life changes, divorce, identifying goals, grief and loss as well as caregiver stress and elder adult issues and transitions. I have also worked with clients that are struggling with their identity, motivation and setting goals. I have experience with exposure response therapy to assist those with OCD. I also use trauma informed care to work with those who have experienced traumatic events from abuse to loss.

Educational Background: I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Montclair State University, and my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a minor in Cultural Anthropology. Throughout my graduate and undergraduate internships, I gained experience working with a variety of ages and populations, from children and adults with developmental disabilities, to adults of all ages with chronic mental illness. I have over 10 years of experience in Case Management, as well as supervisory experience in the field of Human and Social Services.

I am a Licensed Social Worker with a passion for decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting the health and well being of my clients. For my undergraduate degree, I moved from Central Jersey (Yes! It exists!) to South Jersey to attend Stockton University. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Behavioral Neuroscience from Stockton, and then moved on to attend graduate school in Philadelphia. I received my Master of Social Work Degree with a clinical concentration from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice in May of 2020.
