I provide online counseling, making therapy accessible to you from the comfort of your own home.
Do you feel anxious, overwhelmed, stressed out and doubtful? I partner with individuals and new (or experienced!) parents who feel anxious, overwhelmed or uncertain and bring them to calm, confident and hopeful. I work with men and women using empathy and listening. I will work alongside you, empower you and guide you toward freedom. With specialized training in peripartum mental health I can support you as you explore parenting and recognize when the "baby blues" have become more than you can handle. If worry, fear and stress are consuming, I have tools to offer to support you as you explore hope. Are you ready to gain freedom?

I take a person-centered approach to treating clients. I believe in personal responsibility and choices. I believe that change is possible and support my clients along the way. I consider myself a "fellow traveler" when sitting with clients. My job is a privilege. I am also Certified Grief Counselor with many years experience. I believe grief is a fluid process that doesn't follow "stages" and everyone's path is unique.

"Nothing changes if nothing changes". I am a licensed therapist who will work with you, your family or your partner to help find the change that is specific to you. I believe in working without judgement and together establishing agreed upon goals. I do not believe in "cookie cutter" therapy where one approach is used for all and the goals are determined by the therapist. Now is the time for YOU to start making the changes needed for a fulfilling tomorrow. Your successful tomorrow is my hope.

Finding help in the face of emotional pain is an act of courage. A chronic storm of emotions may leave you bouncing between panic, fear, shame, and self-doubt. It is exhausting and can leave you feeling hopeless and afraid. Trying everything you can think of but still not feeling the happiness, confidence and life satisfaction that you long for. Still, somehow a felt sense inside reveals glimmers of the more healed, happier person you know you can be. Like something that you cannot quite grasp, but sense its authentic presence. A call inward. A call to heal.

I'm motivated to help people get past their pain and become who they were meant to be. Doing this requires trust, curiosity, careful listening, thoughtful feedback, and a commitment to what is most alive in you. The reward for me is that I get to be present when the next, better, freer and more flexible version of you comes into the world. It's exciting, meaningful work.

The purpose of counseling is to help people cope with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which hinder various aspects of their personal satisfaction and functioning. This purpose is usually accomplished by increasing the client's personal awareness, increasing the client's acceptance of self and others, and having the client make behavioral and cognitive changes to attain personal goals. To achieve this, I utilize a combination of research-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, reality therapy, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy.

With over 25 years of experience in the mental health field, I work with a wide range of human difficulties. From young adults trying to find their way, to individuals struggling with anxiety or depression, I believe that my work is to draw out the hidden potential in each person. Throughout the years I have trained in a wide spectrum of modalities, ranging from cognitive-behavioral therapy, to attachment theory and advanced work with the subconscious mind. And sometimes just talking about an issue in a safe environment, giving it words, allows the next step towards a happier life.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
