The ideal client recognizes the impact of their past experiences on their current life and is ready to embark on a healing journey. This individual may be struggling with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression related to traumatic events. They are motivated to engage in therapy, open to exploring new coping strategies, and willing to challenge long-held beliefs or patterns that no longer serve them.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” I'm led by my resolute beliefs in an individual's resiliency to overcome life trials and thrive in the face of adversity when provided with the right environment, tools and resources. I take pride in building a therapeutic relationship with you that feels validating, empowering, mutually transparent and compassionately confrontational. Being a bicultural individual has inspired me to remain open, inquisitive and adaptable to distinctive personal values and ways of life.

My ideal client has a desire to heal and change their life. They must approach the counseling journey with openness and curiosity. It does not matter what issues or needs they bring to me because together, we can make magic happen and their goals and desires come to fruition. The most important thing is again that willingness and desire to change.

Therapy can be a richly rewarding process. Most important to its success is first establishing a non-judgmental, collaborative relationship so together we can identify and flexibly address your particular needs. From there our work may include identifying familiar patterned behaviors and learning specific coping and problem solving skills to allow for new ways to relate to yourself, to others, to strengthen your mind, and deepen your emotional resilience. Our work will draw on a combination of treatment modalities including short-term solution-focused practices, mindfulness, and neurobiological understandings.

It is my belief that what the human spirit yearns for most is to be heard in a genuine, non-judgmental, and compassionate way. My goal is to provide a therapeutic environment where my clients feel comfortable to express themselves in their most authentic light. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). It has been my experience, that personal transparency has been most effective in developing a therapeutic relationship in helping others meet their needs while in treatment. I also support those who take a non-diagnostic view to their mental health, and who’ve experienced harms through psychiatric medication and/or MH treatments.

Finally deciding to seek out therapy can feel overwhelming and at times, even increase uncomfortable feelings. Finding the "right fit" with a therapist means taking emotional risks to get the support you deserve. I work to help women regain or perhaps discover for the first time, a sense of inner peace. My practice incorporates holistic, somatic & integrative approaches addressing a wide range of mental health challenges with a focus on trauma recovery. I believe "theory" is invaluable, however, experience and research shows that successful therapy is closely connected to the relationship that develops between therapist and client.

Worried moms & frazzled dads, look no further! Maybe your child is anxious, sad, angry, or acting out. You've tried empathy, rewards, punishments, extra attention, special privileges. You've read books, consulted parenting blogs, & asked other parents for advice. Whatever you try, it may even work for a few days but then all the old problems come right back. Maybe your boy wants to dress like a girl and it's freaking you out. Maybe your teen declares "I'm queer"--what does that even mean? Let's add the stress of the pandemic and you're exhausted, frustrated, and worried about your child's future.

I have had the pleasure of working with a varied clientele. For many years I have built rapport with and facilitated the progress of youth who are on the spectrum, who have attention disorders, who struggled with emotion regulation, who are mute, who are transgender, and have exhibited self-harming behaviors. I have also worked with families as a parent coach and as a provider of psycho-education. Many of my adult clients have had issues with abandonment, attachment, trauma, and self-harm. The goals I have facilitated my clients progression in are myriad. However, one goal most of my clients aspire to attain is self-love.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
