I am a psychoanalyst and look forward to treating people who enjoy understanding their feelings and behaviors on a deeper level. I work with people for as long as desired and work with a wide range of problems in treating adolescents and adults. The Chinese word for crisis carries two elements, danger and opportunity. I truly believe that with crisis comes opportunity. I live my life by this and help people to do the same.

Life can be like an arrow. The only way to move forward is by being drawn backwards, letting go, and then launching towards success. My goal while working with you, is to guide you and show you how you are the expert in your own life; by embracing the pull back, accepting that it is okay to let go, and to move yourself towards success. "The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination." - Carl Rogers

My clients are adolescents and young adults (ages 13-40) with C-PTSD and trauma, mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, possible suicidality, anxiety, and substance use and addiction. Struggling with life transitions, fitting in or dealing with peers and co-workers, feeling a lack of control over your life, or finding reasons to stay alive—let alone thrive, can feel very intimidating. However, you don’t have to face these moments alone or feel afraid to speak up. When you feel isolated or in the dark, I'll be in your corner without an ounce of judgment, strictly compassion and all the support I can offer.

Energy Psychology can be very helpful in working with a variety of issues such as trauma, anxiety and stress, that I believe talk therapy alone cannot always do.
I am a unique therapist in that I am classically trained and deeply rooted in formal psychoanalysis, yet I am also certified in the complementary techniques of energy psychology to help heal trauma and personal blocks. I have experience with individuals and couples in private practice for over 30 years. Therapy sessions with me allow you the choice of incorporating energy psychology or using only traditional talk therapy.

I am a board certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor(CCMHC) licensed in both NJ and NY and specialize in the treatment of anxiety and trauma with a focus on Generalized Anxiety, OCD, Acute Stress Disorder, PTSD, and Social Anxiety Disorder in adults and adolescents.
The purpose of counseling is to help people cope with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which hinder various aspects of their personal satisfaction and functioning. This purpose is usually accomplished by increasing the client's personal awareness, increasing the client's acceptance of self and others, and having the client make behavioral and cognitive changes to attain personal goals. To achieve this, I utilize a combination of research-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, reality therapy, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
