Having a hard time coping with current life circumstances? Whatever you do and however it’s done, things don’t seem to work? But you’re prepared, open and motivated to try something new, and to explore different ways to deal with issues.

As a parent of a struggling teen/ young adult, you often wonder what can be done to help them feel better. You have tried many things yet there has been little to no lasting improvement. Your child’s personality has changed, they have challenges with relationships, their interests have decreased and you worry that things might get worse. You know that your child has great potential to do great things but the way things are going, their future looks bleak. Seeking help can be scary, because you want to make sure that your child has someone they can talk to but feel like even this step is risky.

In the balancing act of our energetic, emotional, spiritual, and psychological spaces, we often find ourselves struggling to produce the desired outcomes. We fight the transformational opportunities and trade them for outdated mindsets. We find ourselves repeating life lessons and losing inspiration along the way. What is the purpose? What is your meaning? Why do you persevere? Our internal motivations are responsible for our behaviors, but many of them are imbedded in the subconscious in need of a surface boost! With insight, we may heal.

My ideal client is a young adult facing overwhelming life challenges. They might feel lost amid trauma, loss, or big changes, even though they seem okay to others. They struggle with emotions like sadness and stress and need a safe place to talk, heal, and learn healthy ways to cope. They want to find peace and purpose, and they seek support to understand themselves better, grow, and face life with confidence. They're ready to explore, heal, and become the best version of themselves, knowing they don't have to do it alone.

My clinical interests include grief/loss, trauma (incl sexual violence and IPV), family of origin and relationship concerns, and the impact of violence (incl marginalization, oppression, and discrimination).
You matter! This tenet is central to the work. For 20 years, this is what I have been passionate about helping folx to realize, intellectually and actually in their day-to-day lives. Life is a series of events (great and small), associated emotions, and responses. These make up our diverse lived experiences. But how do we make sense of them? For some, how do we recover from them to go on to live the lives we desire? In the past, I have also worked with families and groups. These days, I find beauty in continuing to work with individuals to co-create a safe-enough space for clients to explore vulnerability and find their voices.

In my thirty years as a clinician, I have worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitional issues, grief and loss, trauma recovery and illness.
As we move through life, obstacles, challenges, disappointments and past pain can become road blocks to living the life we truly want. In therapy we can create a supportive, safe and accepting place for you to explore and dismantle the elements that have kept you stuck, and uncover your true potential to lead a life that is fulfilling and meaningful. If you are ready for this journey of self-discovery and change, I would be honored to work with you.

With previous experience in hospice and pediatric oncology social work, I see clients for grief, loss or bereavement issues.
Why is it difficult to call a stranger for help, for counseling? Most likely because the caller is vulnerable and sometimes it is hard to ask for help. My goal, as a therapist, is to explore ways with my clients to help them get past what it is that is troubling them. I want to help my clients build a bridge to a healthier future.

This gentle process of listening is helpful with many issues: co-dependency, trust, action blocks, grief, relationship patterns, painful patterns of behavior, unlived desires, depression, work dissatisfaction/career, opening to love, unworthiness, spirituality, intimacy, ob/gyn issues.
My work combines psychoanalytic therapy with helping people learn how to listen to the unique and creative way in which our body carries wisdom, information and unprocessed experiences. It is important for us to tell the story of what has happened to us and to have our stories held in a compassionate manner. If we already know our story and find ourselves still stuck in old behaviors, thoughts and patterns, then learning to listen and experience how our bodies hold meaning for what's still unresolved or unknown is a valuable skill.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
