I consider myself experienced in working with young women with anxiety, depression, trauma, and issues concerning identity/sexuality. I have eclectic experience as a therapist having worked with men and women ages 7 and up on concerns including breakups and divorce, intimate partner violence, anger, and self esteem. Though I enjoy working with most populations, my passion lies with helping survivors of emotional abuse and sexual trauma rediscover their identities and learn to trust themselves as their own greatest ally. I also hope to help survivors develop a positive view of their bodies, sex, and sexuality.

I use specific modalities such as Trauma-Focused CBT, IFS, and EFT as specialties to apply to aid the treatment process.
My ideal client is someone who understands the areas of their life that need improvement. They have an idea of potential treatment goals for therapy and is open to the process. Additionally, they believe there are many ways to address previous traumas and can identify preferences for treatment. For example, a client who is open to incorporating journaling, meditation, or other holistic practices in addition to traditional talk therapy. My ideal client intentionally commits to the therapeutic process and is open to collaboration in the therapeutic space.

Please email me rather than calling! I believe that the most essential part of creating a therapeutic alliance is the connection formed between therapist and client. I pride myself on my ability to build an open, trusting, and judgment-free relationship with my clients, while helping to develop coping skills and fortify personal strengths, in order to get through some of life's most challenging obstacles and transitions. I work with clients to increase confidence in their own abilities and capacity to heal, grow, and thrive in relationships with others, as well as themselves.

I love to work with couples and individuals who feel disconnected in their relationships. This includes struggles with ineffective communication styles, feeling stuck in negative patterns, and painful feelings around abandonment or rejection. My approach to therapy involves creating a safe and accepting space to get in touch with the feelings beneath the conflict and discomfort. Oftentimes, there are wounds from past relationship and/or childhood experiences contributing to present-day issues that can inform not only where we are stuck, but how to get unstuck.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
