Are you feeling down most of the time? Do you constantly worry about your future? Do you have problems relating to others? If some of these questions speak to you, you may want to talk to a trained therapist, who can help you to sort out the things in your life and help you to regain the lost time you spent alone. Some of the feelings you may have are quite normal. However, it becomes a problem when such emotions and feelings impede the daily functioning of your life, such as inability to work, difficulties with family relationships and friendships.

"You are the strongest person I Know." they say. So, you can't make any mistakes EVER! Even though you're exhausted, you can’t slow down, or say no to things because everything around you might fall apart, and then everyone will know what you've always feared about yourself. As long as you keep everyone around you happy, everything will be fine and you will be safe...right? But uh oh... it's not working anymore. You can’t make your own choices, express your true feelings, or hear your own voice. You can't live like this anymore. It's time to come to a resolution with your internal critic. It's time to prioritize you.

Making the decision to seek counseling can be an anxious time. It is important to select a good therapist that can help you work toward your goals. Therapy can be positive and rewarding, if you are committed to the process. It can give you a chance to explore thoughts and feelings regarding your relationships, family, professional life and overall happiness. Therapy can be active and solution-focused, or quiet and reflective. Most importantly it is always collaborative. I help clients work towards goals in a safe, nonjudgmental manner.

Managing anxiety, coping with depression, resolving trauma, improving relationships, all of it is possible. Congratulations on taking the brave first step towards taking control and establishing a new pace of your life.

When faced with life's challenges, sometimes we need help. Problems concerning marriage, family, and work can be emotionally draining, but with guidance, we have the resilience to work through these challenges. My practice focuses on trouble-shooting hardships; whether these hardships are personal, between partners, or within a family, the goal of our meetings is healthy functioning in the face of difficult situations. Emotional freedom is found as people increase their self-confidence. As clients progress through treatment, they often realize an improved "self" in addition to relief in the area they intended to "fix". This improved "self" enhances all areas of their lives.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
