Finding a therapist is a majorly daunting task, so I give you a ton of credit for just making it here. If you’re seeking help through a crossroads, and/or your gut is saying “okay maybe”, I encourage you to keep reading. I’ve been in the field for 20 years, specializing in trauma and life transitions, and most recently as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology for fashion design students, and Neurodiversity Advocate. My primary passion is illuminating what no longer serves (internal AND external), while helping honor, affirm, and truly integrate the whole of who you are. I offer a sliding scale fees to reduce any barriers to support.

Have you lost a loved one to suicide and are now having difficulty finding anyone who understands what you are going through? Suicide loss survivors often feel significant guilt and responsibility for the suicide. They can also feel abandoned and betrayed by the deceased. Well-meaning friends, family members, and therapists may try their best to help but often exacerbate the pain and confusion the survivor is feeling. Imagine feeling understood by someone who has been there and can guide you along the path of recovering from the suicide of your loved one. I would like to be that person for you.

Ever wonder if drinking, substance use, or disordered eating are starting to become a problem? Look no further. People come to me to figure out how to heal their relationship with food and their bodies - to overcome perfectionism and people pleasing - to stop relying on alcohol and drugs to make the pain stop. Taking the first step towards asking for help is hard, but know that I will welcome you without judgement. I know that you’re here because you want the cycle to stop. I want to help you develop the skills to stop obsessing, to stop beating yourself up, and to remove the things that get in the way of you living your life.

Are you dealing with issues such as relationship difficulties, self-discovery, and major life decisions? If you are looking to gain clarity in your thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns while building confidence to navigate life’s challenges, then let’s start there.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
