You are holding it together on the outside, but inside you're teeming with so much worry that you can't sleep. All of the details you need to worry about are running through your head all day long. Some days you are running around getting everything done, and other days you're too exhausted to try to do anything. You can’t remember the last time something was actually fun. Your mind just keeps going a mile a minute, even when you are trying to relax. There are just always so many things to worry about. You just want a minute to breathe for once!

A profound near-death experience sparked my search for meaning and purpose in life, and has inspired me to guide others on their own journey toward healing and transformation. I specialize in working with the highly-sensitive person–those who feel everything strongly, but may be unsure of how to manage those emotions. Anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, and relationship issues are just some of what we can experience when we are out of alignment with our True Self. We may turn to all sorts of distractions, unhealthy relationships or addictions, to cope with what is fundamentally a feeling of discomfort within our own skin.

Specifically, I have worked with child victims of sexual abuse and their families and have participated in family reconnections/reunifications.
Even when we know that it is time to make a change, fear has a way of trying to hold us back. It’s courage that pushes us beyond that fear, to the place we deserve to be. Challenges related to work, school, family, and health can be overwhelming. If not addressed, these issues begin to spill over into the parts of our lives that were previously well. The good news is that there are positive ways to navigate life’s tests, and I am happy to help explore these paths with you. I work with people making small tweaks and huge overhauls to their lives. To me the size of change is a matter of perspective.

Therapy can be a healing and ultimately freeing journey. In my experience, it allows individuals at any age to get in touch with and learn to understand their feelings. In being able to better understand ourselves, we can better recognize not only what prevents us, but also, what allows us to have a more fulfilling life. There is no better feeling as a therapist than seeing your clients realize and embrace their inner strengths, humbling resilience, and acquire the tools to manage their struggles in healthier and more productive ways.

For over 17 years I have worked with adults, children, and teens, providing a compassionate, safe, and non- judgmental approach to address issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, loss and grief, life transitions, and more. I offer an integrative approach combing various therapeutic modalities with the creative arts which helps you connect to your fullest potential and find your voice. By combining expressive arts with talk, we can make progress towards your goals even when it feels difficult to find the right words. My younger clients usually make art regularly, while my older clients often choose to do so more sporadically.

Are you feeling stuck? Does it feel like patterns keep repeating themselves? Are you wondering how to change negative behavior patterns that interfere with achieving your goals? Our work together would identify how past experiences have shaped how you approach life today. In doing this, you can be freed to change the behaviors that prevent you from moving forward. I believe in utilizing people's strengths and competencies to help individuals access those parts of themselves to facilitate healing and empowerment.

Finding someone to talk to, the first step in therapy, is often the most difficult. I understand that the idea of opening up to someone, let alone a stranger, can be daunting, so I would like to offer you time, patience, empathy, and understanding. Life is a journey full of obstacles which may lead to depression, anxiety, confusion, or unhappiness. Sometimes we forget that we are the ones that know ourselves best. Therapy is a way to help yourself be the happiest you can be, and my role as a counselor is to walk that path with you.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
