These challenges can include; anxiety, fighting/arguing, isolation, school refusal, defiance at home/school, bullying, peer conflict, parent/marriage relational issues and the list can go on and on. Having been in over two thousand homes over the past 20yrs I can attest that the home is the "Lab for Living." It takes a lot of courage to seek out a therapist so kudos for getting to this point. My favorite piece of being a therapist is helping individuals to find peace within their own minds. Anxious thoughts, negative self talk and substance use can cloud our minds, prevent us from being fully present in the moment, deprive us of feeling joy and leave us feeling foggy, unorganized and irritated most days.

Welcome folks! I am a queer therapist who focuses on working with folks surviving trauma and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Experiencing trauma of any kind can have a profound effect on the way you view yourself, the world, and others. My primary focus as your counselor is creating a sense of safety, and prioritizing connection with you as a person. Healing from trauma is challenging, and my goal is to allow for a space that is both repairing and empowering. It can also be challenging to find therapists that are truly LGBTQIA+ affirming. An important part of my work is intentionally creating a space for the LGBTQIA+ community.

It is with great pleasure that I have practiced with individuals of all ages for the last 25 years. I enjoy building trust in the therapeutic relationship-even with those who are resistant or not sure if therapy is for them. Accompanying individuals on their journey to self-discovery and witnessing their transformation is an enormous privilege of my job. People come to therapy looking to "fix" things. We forget that often we contain the solution to our problems, but that the solutions are buried under the residue of stressful life events, trauma and loss.

Making the decision to start therapy can be very difficult and it's important to have an open relationship with someone who can help guide you to your ideal YOU. I utilize a systemic approach in therapy to ensure all avenues that might affect one's well-being are touched upon. I believe that exploring your family of origin can help you find patterns, heal, and join more cohesively with loved ones in relationships. I feel that sometimes all someone needs are a quiet place to process and heal to find their path to wellness. I currently have openings Tues-Thurs (before 5pm) via in person or telehealth. Appointments by EMAIL.

My work combines psychoanalytic therapy with helping people learn how to listen to the unique and creative way in which our body carries wisdom, information and unprocessed experiences. It is important for us to tell the story of what has happened to us and to have our stories held in a compassionate manner. If we already know our story and find ourselves still stuck in old behaviors, thoughts and patterns, then learning to listen and experience how our bodies hold meaning for what's still unresolved or unknown is a valuable skill.

I believe therapy is a profoundly collaborative and relational process. I will work alongside you to help you in achieving a deeper understanding and awareness of your experiences, patterns, and emotions, so that you can make desired changes and foster personal growth. I believe that developing a deeper understanding of yourself creates a space to be able to work through and resolve internal and relational conflicts, uncover the links between your past and present, and ultimately develop a future that is both intentional and fulfilling.

Hello, my name is Connie and I look forward to meeting you. I named my practice "A Full Life Counseling" because I strongly believe in the possibility of living a full and meaningful life, even with the ups and downs it often throws at us. I worked in high schools for 20 years, at the college level for 10, and coached high school sports for many years, so I have lots of experience with adolescents and young adults! I care deeply about helping individuals reach their fullest, most authentic potential and love walking with them on the journey. I also enjoy working with parents of anxious children.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
