I help adults who struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, and grief that impact their health, relationships, work, and self-esteem. You may have been asking yourself if you just need more time to figure out what is wrong, or wondering what it will take for you to feel better. You may be feeling overwhelmed, physically and mentally exhausted, stuck without solutions to your situation, or feeling frustrated regarding your life, health, relationships, or circumstances. I help my clients to gain perspective, explore their thinking about themselves and the world around them, and learn to be more present in their everyday lives.

Hello, my name is Connie and I look forward to meeting you. I named my practice "A Full Life Counseling" because I strongly believe in the possibility of living a full and meaningful life, even with the ups and downs it often throws at us. I worked in high schools for 20 years, at the college level for 10, and coached high school sports for many years, so I have lots of experience with adolescents and young adults! I care deeply about helping individuals reach their fullest, most authentic potential and love walking with them on the journey. I also enjoy working with parents of anxious children.

Therapy assists in uncovering the true self. Learning how to recognize feelings enables people to understand themselves more effectively. During therapy individuals learn how to identify feelings and take control of their own lives. By learning how to pay attention to instincts and begin to challenge beliefs individuals can grow instead of stagnate. We promote personal growth and the establishment of healthy communication so our clients can achieve serenity within themselves.

We are all products of our families and life experiences. Not all of these influences are helpful and can create road blocks to living the life that we truly want. Fully understanding ourselves within the context of the family and interpersonal relationships can facilitate personal growth and lead to a life that is fulfilling and meaningful. Through therapy we can create a safe and supportive place for you to feel accepted, explore and alleviate the elements that have kept you stuck, and uncover your true potential.

Do you feel pressured to “hold it all together,” yet often struggle with self-doubt, anxiety, or a persistent sense of not being enough? Perhaps past hurts, family dynamics, or societal expectations weigh you down. I work with high-achieving women and gender-expansive individuals to untangle their pain, reconnect with their authentic selves, and build meaningful, value-aligned lives. Rooted in humility, social justice, and deep respect, my approach centers on trauma, particularly developmental trauma—wounds from early relationships that shape our self-view and relationships.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist, I have specialized training in working with couples, families, and individuals. I work closely with clients as they navigate relational changes, e.g., loss of intimacy, emotional distance, betrayal, family conflict, parenting concerns, separation, divorce, and blended-family issues. I encourage my clients to openly talk about their feelings while constructively working toward greater closeness and intimacy with their loved ones. I believe that the quality of the relationship between therapist and client(s) is the foundation for gratifying therapeutic growth and change.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
