Grounded in traditional evidence based therapy modalities learned while acquiring my LCSW, my additional education and certification in complementary and alternative medicine as well as spiritual psychology also allows us to explore additional creative and holistic methods to achieving overall wellness. My approach is to “meet clients where they are” with an initial goal of stabilization and helping the client to feel safety within themselves.

However, I am skilled in CBT and Existential Therapy.
Trauma is often the root of our struggles. Childhood and adult trauma can leave visible and invisible marks on our bodies and souls. These marks show up in our relationships, our parenting, and our physical health, among other places. It takes bravery to face the feelings that trauma brings up within us. I tailor my techniques and connections to the individual needs of each person who walks through my door because not one of us can, or should, be boxed into a category. I specialize in working with adults; individuals, couples, and families.

Teens and young adults trying to find their way in the world are under great pressure these days. I specialize in the transition from the last few years of high school to whatever comes next, and post-college transitions. Those on a creative path may also resonate with my approach. I work with adults in life transitions, anyone struggling with relationships, uncertain of the rules for healthy versus unhealthy dynamics, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, or existential issues. They may feel alienated or have uncertain goals. Thought patterns might seem circular, annoying, or just unhelpful.

Are you feeling like you'll never feel better? Anxiety and stress can be vicious self-feeding cycles that can build very rapidly unless we know ways to work with them. With over 20 years experience, I've helped many people feel less anxious & overwhelmed so they can sleep better, work more confidently, & live from a more joyful place. And, I truly believe that asking for help isn’t a weakness at all, it’s actually a sign of strength. I offer an integrative approach to my counseling sessions for those who are looking for a more holistic, encompassing approach where I can blend in energy techniques & spirituality, if desired.

I work with diverse clients and issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationships (including LGBT). Our behavior patterns are our "creative adjustments" to life circumstances that were unresolvable with the resources we had at the time. I facilitate a compassionate self-awareness of "how" we do those patterns, looking to build the resources needed in the present. Change requires a new "experience" in the present and self-compassion is the best predictor of a good therapeutic outcome. Let's focus less on what "isn't" working in your life and more on accessing and building upon what "is" working NOW.

The amazing thing is, we can all feel so much better than we do right now - even if we're already feeling quite well. But if you're looking at this website, odds are that you haven't been feeling your best lately. That can change, and it's way less complicated than you may imagine. We all have a body. And the wonderful thing about our bodies is that they are built with an inherent capacity and inclination towards healing. At Equinimity Therapy NJ, I will help you harness that inherent drive and capability so you can endure, process, and even grow from major life changes, traumatic events, and mental health challenges.

Psychotherapy is a profession whose mainspring is love. Nearly everyone who visits a therapist has a love disorder, and each has a story to tell of love lost or denied, love twisted or betrayed, love perverted or shackled to violence. I use holism to help the patient reconnect, remember and reimagine. Much of what causes us distress comes from a lack of integration with our biological, psychological, social, and spiritual selves. I am excited about partnering with you in your journey of finding wholeness.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
