We specialize in Marriage and Family Therapy and treat couples and individuals. Marriage therapy focuses on the conflicts and disagreements between two people. All families experience some type of disagreement. Some families function in unhealthy patterns and therefore conflict exists. Families are affected when one member of the family is chronically ill, suffers from substance abuse, divorce and separation, single parenting, financial issues, etc, as well as a lack of communicating effectively. Family therapy may be the only setting where you will have the opportunity to hear how other family members are feeling.

I have a certificate in family therapy from The Ackerman Institute, a certificate in psychoanalysis from The Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey, and a certificate from NYU in working with substance abuse.
I believe individuals and families come into therapy with a great deal of strength to help themselves and each other. I see my job as helping people to unlock these strengths, see what patterns have blocked them from seeing them, and find ways to use them more effectively to realize their goals. I work to help people get as much joy as possible from their relationships and from their lives in general.

I have had the privilege of working with clients from diverse backgrounds, addressing concerns such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and significant life transitions.
Feeling stuck due to anxiety and depression can leave us feeling exhausted, frustrated, and often leads to isolation. While seeking therapy might seem daunting, it can be a powerful step towards creating a more meaningful life.

As a Doctoral level Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor with over 30 years of experience, I am a preferred provider for executives, professionals, and VIP's seeking substance abuse & co-occurring services.
If you're looking for substance abuse counseling, you may be frustrated to find that most services involve large groups filled with unmotivated and court-mandated clients, large time commitments, forced self-help participation, or clients with much more severe problems. Ayre Counseling offers world-class, innovative treatment that is the platinum standard in the treatment industry. I utilize a flexible, adaptive, and highly individualized approach. Rather than the traditional approaches of heavy confrontation and coercion, I provide the opportunity to change through the use of Evidenced-Based Practices that are delivered in an atmosphere of encouragement, optimism, and compassion.

I have also provided therapy for those people who suffer with addiction and substance abuse issues.
"What good is psychotherapy if you're up to your a** in alligators?" A phrase that was used by my favorite professor in graduate school. My goal as a licensed clinical social worker is to meet individuals where they are in life presently, whether they need to process ongoing psychological challenges, or current anxiety and stress related to everyday concerns. With my patients, I want to help process through feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and help facilitate a better understanding of any underlying issues. Ultimately, helping individuals to be able to live a more healthy and productive life.

My practice focuses primarily on men’s health and well-being treating issues such as: anxiety, depression, intimacy and relational issues, trauma, sexual addiction, alcohol and substance abuse, codependency and co- addiction, and issues around identity.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or lost? Maybe you feel unfulfilled in your relationships, career, or other key areas of your life. If you are ready to explore these parts of yourself and interrupt patterns that are no longer serving you, then it may be time to engage in psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process which allows us to look at the areas that are causing distress, and identify ways to adjust your thoughts and behaviors to create positive change. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and authentically.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
