My intention is to build honest and trusting relationships with each of my clients so that healthier patterns can be created and new solutions learned.

Our work together will center on processing unhealed trauma and/or addressing maladaptive behavior, while I guide you toward building the life you truly want. Practicing from a space of non-judgment and empathy, I recognize that each person is at a different stage of their personal growth and adapt our therapy accordingly. I believe in bodily autonomy and fat liberation and work from a Health At Every Size (HAES) belief system. Let's work together to heal the root causes of the issues you are facing and create space for you to learn to love yourself as you are.

I have been in the behavioral health field for over twenty years and have seen time and again that addiction and mental health issues are a complex interaction of biology, psychological makeup, environmental influences and social factors. In short, mental health and addiction issues are complicated to understand and difficult to treat. Yet while treating individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders, I have witnessed the best in the human spirit and have seen countless people develop the skills they need to recover and go on to lead fulfilling and contented lives.

Life with depression, anxiety, substance use, transitions and grief can be challenging.
Is anxiety and sadness keeping you from functioning fully? Is your mood so flat that nothing feels enjoyable? Are you worried about what another person thinks of you? Do you wonder what is being said about you? Do you wonder why everyone else seems to be having such a great life? Is sense of purpose lost? Do your thoughts always seem negative no matter what you try to think about? Do you feel stuck, frustrated and resentful? Does change seem out of your grasp? Is change something you can't even think about? Is change something that happens for everyone else so you just don't think about it? Do think about it today.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
