I have more than 20 years of experience in working with individuals from all walks of life. I have helped many people dealing with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, low self-esteem, and stress. Taking the step to enter therapy can be scary, but is often a very powerful experience. I believe that problematic early relationships can often cause roadblocks to happiness and satisfaction in one's current relationships. I provide a very safe, sensitive, non-judgmental environment where I can offer practical solutions to the problems of life, and offer the hope of positive change and personal growth.

Is the weight of being the strong one in your family becoming difficult to manage? To the world, everything looks perfect. But on the inside, everything is not okay. You have checked off all the proverbial boxes of success in life, but you still feel a vast emptiness. It’s hard for you to enjoy your success, feel joy because stress and anxiety keep you up at night. I work with adults to help develop a deeper understanding of how past unresolved family dynamics may play a role in the current struggles you are facing in all of your relationships.

As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you to enhance your personal growth. I practice dynamic problem-solving with children, adolescents, and adults, coping with the life cycle stresses of "full catastrophe living", as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn in his book of the same name. The purpose of therapy is to reduce suffering, to develop a more affirming sense of self and to change damaging beliefs. My view is that we all need, at times, to create a space where we can practice a new attitude toward life, the world and ourselves.

We all have the power to change our lives for the better. Whether we want to break a bad habit, leave a dead-end job, repair a damaged relationship, or resolve a troubling issue, I believe we have the power to do so. The first step is to simply accept ourselves where we are. Once we do that, we can more easily identify the things that are holding us back from being our best selves, and having the life we want. Let's get started!

Therapy is a collaborative process that hinges on a relationship of trust and understanding. I offer my clients a warm, supportive and non-judgmental space where together we can explore and resolve whatever challenges you may be experiencing. Many of us have developed adaptations to our environments which may result in patterns and behaviors that no longer serve us. The work of therapy is to examine these adaptions with compassion and explore opportunities for growth and change.

You’re lying in bed and it starts - endless thoughts of what there is to do and what hasn’t been done, what is going wrong or what could go wrong, memories, exciting new ideas, old conversations, thoughts of how to ‘fix’ your sleep/anxiety/mood/organization/relationships/life. Your busy mind can be exhausting yet that is exactly the problem; you just can’t seem to disengage enough to fully relax, enjoy, or possibly even sleep. And all of that thinking does not seem to improve the way you live day-to-day anyway. This is a frustrating paradox when you are trying to reach your fullest potential but it feels just out of reach.

I am a mature and long-time clinician. I focus on family issues, parenting crises, divorce/custody, and the problems of older adults. In the past few years, I have become quite comfortable with virtual office treatment. I am warm and engaging and able to establish meaningful rapport. Virtual therapy isn’t comfortable for all but surprisingly it can offer an intensity that is sometimes not easily established in the traditional setting. I am glad to offer assistance with the technology of virtual therapy for those who are less experienced.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
