I work with anyone 18+ who has unprocessed trauma and it is impacting their present situations I work with survivors of gender-based violence whose experiences of abuse impacted their self-esteem and the ways they connect with themselves + others. I also work with their significant others/family members who have also been impacted by their loved ones’ experiences of trauma. I work with BIPOC millennials and adult children of immigrants who don’t feel enough, who are masking their struggles and engaging in avoidant behaviors, and who want to heal from their generational/cultural trauma.

Issues related to substance abuse and eating disorders.
As I reflect on my many years of practicing psychotherapy , I have found that what has been the most helpful is the authenticity of the therapeutic relationship. This is where you, the client, will learn to trust and open up about yourself. This process of self reflection will help you identify and understand the deeper parts of you. Whether your problem is self esteem, family issues, or intimacy , understanding yourself in a meaningful way will allow you to be more content in your daily living. Psychotherapy is a place where you can learn to feel better about yourself.

My previous clinical experiences include community mental health, sexual violence support, individual/group counseling in medication assisted opioid treatment and as a Program Director providing services and resources to the 9/11 and responder community.
People seek therapy for many reasons. Perhaps you are in a crisis, confronting a life transition (divorce, retirement, death, illness, empty nest, new relationship), having difficulty coping with work stress, using/abusing substances, or "feeling stuck" and unable to make positive life changes. I believe that most of us have blind spots - emotional patterns or behaviors that can get in the way of our healing or fully exploring life’s challenges and opportunities. My role is to provide clinical insight and guidance that is collaborative and respectful, supporting your unique journey toward recovery and growth.

My previous work with the Essex County Sexual Assault and Violence Education Center has helped me gain experience in the treatment of trauma.
Are you looking to make a shift? I am licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I believe therapy can be seen as a process of unpacking. Things often go unsaid, which can manifest into various effects on the body, such as anxiety. Although staying with your emotions can be difficult, it can often be the pathway to healing. My clinical experience has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of our environment and relationships, as well as the positive shifts that can take place when offered supportive and validating resources.

My specialties include: psychotherapy for adoption issues, trauma, PTSD, adult survivors of childhood abuse, depression and anxiety.
I strongly feel that healing can take place only in the context of a relationship in which someone experiences safety, compassion and understanding. It is through this process that people can awaken in themselves the possibilities for growth and transformation, often hidden by the negative effects of trauma, depression, anxiety, anger and loss. In my treatment approach, I communicate to my patients that they are not alone in their suffering, that they have the strength to tolerate the uncertainties of life, and they do have choices even if they feel stuck and alone.

Having previously worked with clients who have experienced loss, abuse, and other disruptive events in their lives, I am very sensitive to how these experiences can affect and shape future perspectives.
You may choose therapy for multiple reasons. Whether you are here to resolve relationship conflicts, life transition, loss, or to manage stressors with work, taking this first step can be quite challenging as well as rewarding. Dealing with life problems is often the most challenging aspect of our daily lives; problems often become bigger when you try to ignore them. My goal is to help you understand and overcome these problems. Together, we will work through your vulnerabilities, fears, and beliefs to have a better understanding of how things can be improved.

I also have experience working with trauma survivors, particularly survivors of intimate partner violence.
Throughout life we must develop a relationship with ourselves. During difficult times, we find that relationship can be negative and draining due to our experiences or thought processes. My aim as a therapist is to build a positive and uplifting sense of self with room for growth and changes over time. It is my goal to help clients feel comfortable, happy, and safe in their relationships with themselves. Oftentimes, this involves resolving issues of past and present by creating a harmony among mind, body, and spirit.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
